Scared

I had made an account on Reddit long time ago when and deleted it a while back. I thought all the posts would delete too (videos +photos) since I posted them to subreddit I made and was the sole moderator. But they are still up. I still get creepy people saying they found me from them and I wish they could just be deleted.. I’ve reported them on multiple accounts I hope it works..

Hi @Ri

That is a really tough situation. Have you tried conatct the reddit through any support links or help links? Is it possible to relog in and delete them from the inside?

I am so sorry you have to deal with that that is very frustrating and scary.

Hey @Ri

I am extremely sorry to hear about what has been happening; this sounds very frightening. I'm really proud of you for coming on here and opening up to us all.

Having complete strangers contact you about old videos and photos from your old Reddit account that was deleted sounds very scary, unsettling and invasive. I do commend you for making reports.

I would definitely look into contacting Reddit via here and also the eSafety Commissioner for assistance with this circumstance. I would advise against directly speaking to these strangers, just report and block them.

Have you told anyone else about what has been happening? Like a friend or family member? Also if you are finding this situation to be too distressing or you're just not coping, there is always headspace, kids helpline, and lifeline

I really hope things improve for you quickly and that these videos/photos stop circulating. Make sure you're still taking care of yourself during this difficult time!

We're all here for you and we're on your side!

It's fine, I have reported it multiple times and they told me they won't take it down as it doesn't violate anything so there's that. The posts aren't anything bad just selfie type photos and videos, that I would just prefer not be up because they are old and embarrassing. I don't talk to any of them don't worry, block and report. It's just frustrating.

Hi @Ri

It is super frustrating that you've reported this so many times, but they refuse to take it down! I personally believe that because those are your photos and videos, and are of you, you should have the full right to have these removed. I am glad, though, that you aren't talking to those people who reach out to you about these photos and videos and are blocking and reporting them.

I'm so sorry about this whole situation, and I wish there was more that I could do to help have these videos and photos of you removed. In my experience, when it comes to social media platforms and reporting content, it can sometimes be very challenging to have something removed. I guess the most you can do is continue to report and push for these images and videos to be removed, have a look at the resources I and others have given you, and, importantly, look after yourself! Hopefully things may settle down after a while, and I really hope people stop contacting you about these photos and videos!

Hi @Ri

Just checking in to see how you are holding up. I hear how distressing and scary this situation has been for you. This experience sounds incredibly unsettling and invasive. In particular, it is frustrating as you believed that the termination of your account included the deletion of its content. I feel your frustration as the platform clearly does not prioritise the safety of their users and protect them from further contact from strangers. I see that you have contacted Reddit and they refuse to remove the content which is absolutely ridiculous on their behalf. How have you been managing these feelings recently? Looking forward to hearing from you 🤗

Hi thanks, sorry this website takes me ages to navigate I keep getting lost lol. I feel fine now I felt overwhelmed whilst writing that but talking to people in my life that I know over the last couple days has helped. I've been managing good. Thanks for the concern it's just annoying at this point more than upsetting.

That is wonderful to hear, I am glad that you have support that have helped you navigate this situation and clarify your feelings. I see that at this point it is more irritating than anything having to deal with advances from strangers. However, from what I have gathered it sounds like your personal details are available and is how these strangers have been able to contact you, I assume that you have emphasised this to Reddit, perhaps they can remove these details and prevent people finding your identity.

  • If the thread contains personally identifying information (email address, name) it should and will be removed - or just the comment that contains the information will be removed.
  • If the thread contains personal feelings, it won't be removed, unless it breaks a subreddit's policies about the type of content to be posted in that subreddit.

I have found the above information online. Perhaps you can ask Reddit to remove your details instead of the posts themselves? I hope that can be of help!

Hi @Ri

I'm so sorry you're feeling creeped out by this, it is quite understandable as it is very creepy. It's great that you have reported all of it on multiple accounts. Is there a way to email Reddit customer service and ask them to take all of it down directly?

Please look after yourself 💜

Hi Ri,
Thank you for sharing this with us! I can really hear how scared you are right now. You thought the reddit posts were all deleted, but they are still up, and creepy people have been contacting you about them. I can really see how this would feel like an invasion of privacy and make you feel so unsettled. It sounds like you have made some reports to try to get it down. I am so glad you have done this. Hopefully they can take it down for you.
I am wondering if you have been able to talk to anyone in your life about this such as a friend, family member or teacher? It must be really difficult to be dealing with this by yourself and it’s important that you have some support around you. I am also wondering if you are doing anything to take care of yourself whilst you wait to hear back about the reports?
Esafety have some really great resource here about online safety which I wanted to share with you. Just a heads up I will be sending you a check in email soon, so be on the look out.

Take care,
