Hey @gmusicj ,

I’m sorry to hear that you are going through some trauma right now. If you feel comfortable, would you like to talk about it? This community is here for you. In addition, there are professionals, such as those at Headspace, who would also aim to help and be there for you.

Sending love ❤️

Hey @gmusicj!

It's really great to hear that leaning on your professional supports has been so helpful for you during what would be a really stressful time, starting at afe! Do you have any advice for anyone else who might be starting tafe and is feeling a little concerned, or anxious?

That sounds like a really great tip @gmusicj. It is amazing that you had some ways of calming yourself down. Are there any other strategies that you use? It sounds like it must have been quite a frightening and scary experience for you. I am not sure about TAFE programs but some universities have a buddy like system.. where more senior students/staff can show you around campus. They also provide tips that might not be included in university guides, lectures etc. Do you think your TAFE might have something similar? Smiley Happy

Hey there @gmusicj

Catching up on your thread. New places and big changes are so nerve-wracking, aren't they? When I'm feeling overwhelmed by starting a new course/job/hobby group, I try to remember a time where I overcame that in the past. Can you think of any times you felt this way and eventually felt more comfortable over time? You mentioned your first day at high-school and I think it's great to remember those times and what you are capable of Heart

Also, I know TAFE usually have support workers who can hold your hand through the process. There's a link here that goes into more detail.

Hi @gmusicj , I’m sorry to hear that you are still hurting 😞

Would you like to discuss further how you are feeling, if you are comfortable?
Also, are there any self-care methods that you engage in that might be useful to you right now? I know for me, when I am experiencing trauma, I need social support. Are there people around you that you feel comfortable talking to about this trauma or who may be there to distract you or provide support for you? ♥️

Aw @gmusicj that is a big, overwhelming emotion to be feeling. I can only imagine the heaviness you're carrying around. With that in mind, I think it's so commendable that you're telling us how you're feeling. The more you do this in life, the more you'll see that you are not alone and that survivors of trauma are everywhere.

Your concerns are valid but I'd like to tell you that, by being someone who is surviving with and seeking help for your trauma, you are the literal opposite of weak. When people tell me I'm strong, I notice that my brain likes to reject it no matter how much evidence there is to suggest otherwise (silly brains) but over time I'm learning to let that in.

You are strong and although recovery can be a testing experience, know that you are on the right track. One day at a time Heart
