upset

Hello Everyone,

I haven't checked in for a while but I got busy.

this is going to sort but upsetting recently I had to put down 2 of my dogs the first one was full of cancer the second one was in pain and had something wrong with her brain I miss them both so much they were my best friends.

My dog that got put down this week (Betty) was my best friend and I have never slept a night without her. I am with my dad at the moment so I haven't had to try yet but I don't know how I am going to sleep knowing I am not going to see her the next morning, also I am going on camp after the easter weekend I feel like it will be hard as betty has been thereafter every camp.

I don't know if this sounds pathetic but I feel really upset about it. Have any of you lost a pet how did you handle it?

Hi Betty123,

I'm sorry to hear this had to happen. It definitely is not pathetic! There should not have to be a very strong justification to feel upset, and in this case you are going through the loss of two pets, who you felt very close to, so feeling very upset is very normal.

It's good to know that you have your Dad with you at the moment. Have you tried talking to other people like your friends about it and see if they have any advice? It may also be helpful to just be around people more so you have more support throughout this emotionally difficult time.

Hope this helps,

Greenfern

Hi @Betty123 ,

Firstly, please know it is not pathetic at all that you are grieving the loss of not only one, but 2 dogs. Dogs are known as 'man's best friend' and rightly so. You have every right to grieve the loss of your dogs. Give yourself that room to grieve and know it is only natural.

Griefline is a wonderful resource you may be interested in. Griefline, along with many others, recognise the significance of losing a pet. You can have a read through this resource which talks about losing a pet. Griefline's forums and phone line are for those who are 18+ years old - I'm not sure whether you fit into this category.
