Hey @eden_m01 ! As someone who also has trouble sleeping, I feel you. Something that I've found that helps me is actually getting out of bed and doing something to distract yourself. I find that if I actively "try" to fall asleep and keep on thinking about wanting to fall asleep. But when I get out of bed and start doing stuff, my brain kinda forgets that it wants to fall asleep (if that makes sense hehe). Even if you do the stuff that you're already doing (reading, listening to music etc) in the living room, on the couch, might help even a teensy bit.
On a different note, I really hope you get the job! The key is to just try and keep on distracting yourself 😆
Hey @eden_m01 Thanks for sharing how things have been going for you since the job application. Waiting to hear back after an interview can be so nerve wracking! On top of that it sounds like you've been struggling with your sleep, and not sleeping well can have a negative impact on so many other areas of our lives. I'm wondering how you are feeling overall?
Wow- you've been so proactive and resilient in trying so many strategies to help yourself get to sleep! It must be so frustrating that nothing you have tried has been helpful 😞 Sometimes strategies that work for some people don't always work for others, but there might be something in our resource database on sleep here that could be worth also trying, if you're looking for more strategies. We also have a thread on the community here which you might find useful.
I was wondering whether you have anyone you can talk to about what's been going on, or any professional supports who could help with your anxiety and trouble falling asleep?
I also wanted to check in with how you went with looking at places that support people with anxiety around job hunting?
Ive got a call on monday about it i would of had one today but i didnt get too book it in time before someone else took that spot ill keep ya posted on more
Hi @eden_m01 this sounds really exhausting. It is really good that you've been able to try some strategies to help with falling asleep, even if they haven't worked particularly well. Is there an adult in your life you could speak to about your problems falling alseep? Or perhaps the possibility to make an appointment with your GP?
I've had problems with sleep for as long as I can remember, so I know exactly how frustating it is. Try to keep up the good habits, like limiting screen time and having some lavendar herbal tea - although it may not have initially worked, I personally found that by keeping up good sleep hygiene practices, over time my body started to understand 'this is what happens before it's time to sleep' and the habits became more effective.
Also, a little bit strange, but I found some success in falling asleep when I didn't eat foods with lots of sugar (such as chocolate or ice cream) a couple of hours before I wanted to go to bed. Although chocolate and ice cream didn't necessarily make me feel 'hyper' or energetic after I ate them, I would notice that it would often cause me to lie in bed and stay up later just thinking. Now, if I feel like having a sweet snack or dessert (because I'm a sucker for sweets!), I try to have them after lunch instead of dinner. Perhaps this could be something you could try?
It sounds like you already know quite a lot, but I'll link an article on sleep hygiene by Headspace just in case.
ill try a GP soon ive been avoiding as much bad foods as possible before bed time an going out for a run in the morning an near lunch im doing the best i can i know ill pull through with smth
