Let's share some underrated self care methods <3

Hi everyone 🙂 It's been a while as I've spent a bit of time to myself after dealing with a bit of conflict - but I am always happy to come back to this safe space! I thought I'd create a fun little thread suggesting unconventional self care methods that has worked for you, or you believe that aren't recognised enough. 

 

Here are some of mine:

💮 Massages - it was only until recently that I was reminded of how great massages are and I am so thankful for it. Whether that be teaching yourself massaging techniques to help you relieve some tension or going to treat yourself to a professional massage - I personally believe it's a great investment to your mind and body
💮Giving yourself a hug 🙂
💮 Online personality quizzes - here are some of my favourites: Superpower Personality, Sanrio Character Soulmate, Onigiri Character

Underrated and overlooked because it sounds so simple! Breathing is my go to when I am experiencing a lot of stress. Recently read a neuroscientists take on breathing and how you can reclaim control over your stress by focusing on your breathing. Breathing slowly and deeply replenishes your lungs with oxygen, increasing circulation, and tells your brain that you are safe. When we are stressed, our breathing becomes shallow, and we don't absorb as much oxygen. This low level of oxygen increases stress and negative feelings. There are many guided meditation videos on YouTube which promote deep breathing. 

 

P.S., notice that when you're stressed you tend to sigh, the "Huberman sigh," where the body tries to counteract stress by allowing more oxygen to flow! Very fascinating to search up if you're interested 🤗

I find massages super relaxing and perfect at the end of a stressful semester. 

 

I find underrated for self-care is driving by yourself, I found that with my busy life sometimes my trips to the city or just around sitting and driving in the car are the most beneficial. I don't have to think and I can just be by myself for a moment.

I also find massages super relaxing and helpful for self-care 😊

I also find sitting out in the sun a bit underrated, it can feel super healing just to sit outside ☀️

These methods are awesome, will definitely be trying some of them out! 

Something unconventional I like doing for self-care is cleaning! Having less clutter around makes a huge difference, as it helps me feel less overwhelmed and stressed. I also put a podcast on while cleaning and it is a great way to unwind 😊

Thanks @LilacLeopard14 🥰 I'm so happy to hear you like Sanrio too! There are so many characters so I had to search him up but he's so cute! I got Pekkle and now I feel like there should be a discussion to share our results 😋
