Youth Allowance and Centrelink

Hey yall

I have a question for anyone who may be on youth allowance or has contact with centrelink

My mum has been nagging me to get onto it especially with how she's divorced now but I'm very hesitant about it especially because I'm still in high school and unemployed.

I have kept telling her that im not eligible but she insists that I have to get on it no matter what so I'm not sure what to do lol

Hey @Vizion101 thanks for reaching out about the confusion around Centrelink payment eligibility. Navigating government support services can be really confusing and it sounds like your mum is putting quite a lot of pressure on you about this, which would be really stressful.

In terms of figuring out whether you're eligible for payment, I would encourage you to contact Centrelink directly or even visit a service centre in person. It might be worth mum coming with you for this, or even contacting Centrelink herself, to see if she's eligible for family support payments (if that's something she hasn't already looked into). This payment and service finder tool from Centrelink might also be helpful.

It sounds like there might be more financial stress for your family since the divorce, so I just wanted to add if you or your family are needing more urgent support with money, I would encourage you to check out this resource

How do you feel about you and/or mum potentially reaching out to Centrelink directly?

Welcome back!
