I think this quote from a song sums up how I feel about the pressure I felt when I was finishing school and didn't know what my next steps were :
'The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives.
Some of the most interesting 40-year olds I know still don't'.
I think in general we're expected to make really big and final decisions about our lives at such a young age, when we haven't had time to even explore who we are and what we want yet. And that can feel really stressful!
As someone who started uni, dropped out, went travelling, started back at uni to study a whole different subject, has had an array of jobs in lots of different fields, lived on two opposite sides of the world - I can confidently say you don't need to have it all figured out by the time you're 18, and that it is totally ok to try something and then change your mind 😊 There were of course lots of stressful times throughout all of those changes, but I think the Future Stress content collection @Portia_RO shared is so great at covering so many aspects of that. 👏
I'm wondering what people in the community would want to do when they leave school if that pressure and stress wasn't there for you? Share your dream lives in the comments! ✨
