I can really resonate with this. I have a volunteer job I do on the weekends which involves me calling elderly clients to check in on their wellbeing. Without realising I would ask questions like "what are your plans for Mother's Day" or "are you doing anything special for Mother's Day?" and when some people responded with I'm not a mother, I realised this isn't a universal day for some so I adjusted and adapted. I wouldn't bring up Mother's Day until they did. This really opened my eyes as to how easy it is to overlook how hard some days of celebration can be for some people. I always try to never make assumptions but this one slipped my head (it was 7 am in the morning- so I was very much still trying to shake off sleepy brain haha).
