Allies can fight for LGBTQIA+ rights and acceptance by encouraging people in their lives to be more open-minded and sympathetic to the difficulties that the LGBTQIA+ community face if they are somewhat ignorant or discriminative towards the issues they face. I have often found when I have had an open and relaxed conversation with perhaps a family member or a friend who does not understand much about LGBTQIA+ discrimination or violence, they are able to find understanding and compassion when spoken to in a civilised way for the sake of education.
More directly, as an ally, I can listen and support my LGBTQIA+ friends who want to have an open and non-judgemental conversation about the way discrimination and violence toward their community make them feel. It is always important to provide a listening ear, even if you don't always have the perfect advice.
