I understand what you mean about Pride and Prejudice while I haven't read that one I have certainly read a lot in the time and before. The hardest ones I've read would be Dracula and Dr Jerkyll and Mr Hyde. 

I am currently reading The Game of Thrones A Storm of Swords. My recent favourite would be The Host by Stephanie Meyer and I've always had a soft spot for the shadow hunter series (the books are way better than the TV  show).
