Grounding techniques!
Hi everyone, does anyone have any other grounding techniques they'd like to share that have worked for them?
I've so far used 2 different ones at times when I'm feeling stressed.
The 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 grounding technique refers to getting back in touch with your surrounding so that you can understand that you are in the here and now. Look around, take a few deep breaths, find 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste (last one can be tricky sometimes).
Body scans/body tracing - imagine like a pencil/pen at the bottom of your feet. Then visualise tracing that pencil slowly around your whole body. Starting at the very bottom of the feet, up the legs, essentially all the way around the body to the top of your head. Then make your way back down to your feet by the end. Best done sitting down or laying down, can be done standing up when you're not walking around, etc.
