Wow, I love this. I really like how you have everyday imagery, like the grey hair, and especially the mandarin.
Here's another of mine.
Can’t be your therapy
Sick of this
Can’t be your therapy
Shouldn’t be my job
Have my own life to hold together
Let me get a breath
Before I help you get yours
Let me find some healing
Before I help you find yours
Can’t do this
Can’t be your therapy,
Your mother and your friend
All in one.
Can be your friend
But not with all those other things
Packaged on top
Just choose one.
But I can’t be your therapy
Because I need my own
Can’t be your oxygen
When I’m drowning myself
Please…
Just let me get a breath
Let me take a break
Let me help myself
Then perhaps I can help you
Maybe after I’m breathing
Maybe after I’m whole
Maybe after I’m well
But let me find my therapy first.
I wrote two more poems after it in the same style about a month later because I realized it's only partly true. So I have one called 'Let me be your therapy' and another called 'Can't but maybe let me'.
