Hey @Lemon_Dolphin,
It sounds like you're really committed to finding healthier coping mechanisms, which is a big step. I'm glad to hear you're prioritizing your safety and seeking alternatives. As someone who has gone through similar feelings and self harm, it can feel like a lot. Finding alternatives is very admirable and a step in the right direction💪
Have you considered activities that engage your senses or provide different physical sensations other than pain? Some I’ve tried and seen around are things like stress balls, sensory toys, things like hard clay or carrying hand warmers for comfort. Sometimes moving to different sensations can help mimic that same dopamine.
Physical activities like yoga, dance, or even just going for a walk can also be effective in releasing pent-up energy and dopamine. Plus, they're adaptable to different settings and don't require any special equipment, even when you’re out, you can try switching up your walk (e.g. every few steps jump, or skip).
Remember, finding what works for you might take some trial and error, and it's okay to experiment with different strategies until you find what feels most helpful. Keep communicating with your counsellor about your experiences and together, you can find solutions that support you long term. You're not alone in this journey!
