If you guys have different hobbies, maybe ask them about theirs? Something simple like, 'I've been wanting to try XYZ but I don't know where to start!' or ask for opinions about small things. Then you see how the vibe leads. This can hopefully take off some of the pressure of starting a big talk or inviting people to hang out. How does that sound?
