@Green_Ghost I'm very happy that you enjoyed reading my poem and found it intriguing. To answer you and @PeelingOranges question, the lines "A defence that we embody." and "A civilisation that marks us blind." In my interpretation means that we have created a fortress, or wall of some kind that we use to express ourselves for protection. And the world (or a certain person or group in particular) has created an effect on us which we didn't even know or wanted it to have happened, and can't let go of.
Having this feeling can make you feel angry at yourself for not wanting that connection or not wanting to be dependant on that person, because they were always never apart of your life (and you were never apart of theirs) yet you still feel that attachment lingering in you everyday like a disease.
