Hi @Infinity ,
Firstly, yay for wanting to try something new!
Secondly, feeling out of breath quite quickly is SUPER normal for new runners.
My first tip is to slow right down. Often times when we begin running, we don’t quite know our limits just yet, or have have a pre-existing idea of how it should be (which is usually a 10/10 effort or super fast)… but actually, running slowly is what allows your body to adapt to the new exercise and improve over time! So next time, try running slower. Listen to a podcast or relaxing music, nothing to up-beat that makes you want to zoom! Your aim should be to run slow enough so that you can hold a conversation!
My second tip is to consider trying Interval Running. This can be a great way to start, especially if you find running slowly quite demotivating. Try intervals such as.. walk for 1 minute, run for 30 seconds x 10 times, and overtime you can slowly increase your running duration as you decrease your walking duration!
There are heaps of programs available online that have these types of runs provided, some of them are even guided runs. Try the NIKE App for completely free runs, or you can try the KIC App (they do charge a subscription fee though).
My final tip is, know your “why” behind running.
Feeling really solid and confident in your “why” will assist you through your journey. If you’re feeling demotivated, your “why” will inspire you again. If you’re unhappy with your progress, your “why” will allow you to see the positives.
I hope that helps! I’d love it if you could keep me updated if you give it a go, and let me know what you think!
