[CHAT] Australians On Drugs ABC2
On Tuesday we'll be joining in the the discussion about drugs that ABC2 is having all of next week. So head back here at 9:30pm on the 28th and we'll watch the show together and talk through issues raised in the program. I'll be facilitating the session with our awesome peer mods@Myvo and @tsnyder. Remember the guidelines and remember we're not a counselling service but you can access those service here.
This is going to be real, don't miss it.
I really don't like these young people on this show. They are irrational and don't meet anyone half way and personalize everything. Can someone pleaseeeee tell these people they don't represent everyone's opinions. Can't stand these young guys!!

I feel as though they needed someone from Gen Y who doesn't take drugs on the show.
Yea - I guess they had that 27 yostraight edge martial artist - but it was almost like she was too far the other way....
Wow, so the show is over - what was the one thing that stood out the most?
What stood out to me was how on the earth did the ABC get past and current drug users onto the show?
2. Stafford said that as drug-users, they look after each other. When looking for help, having a support network is essential and a good step. But is it a Catch 22 if your support network also uses when you use too?

One of the scariest things I heard on the show was about how people delay going to hospital/get help for themselves or their friends because they are afraid of getting into trouble.... A problem of criminalisation - but there is some good harm minimisation info out there are about getting help http://drugaware.com.au/Stay-Safe.aspx

Hm, I feel that if you don't know when and where to get help - and your friends are using too - they're probably not gonna know either. It looks like that it all goes around in a circle as a Catch 22.
3. How can we help others make better choices in regards to drug use?

We've got some good info

For example...
If you choose to take drugs at a party or on a night out, make sure someone sober knows what you're taking. This way a friend can help you if something goes wrong.
If something goes wrong it’s important to keep in mind the contacts that you may need. If there is an emergency where someone is injured, someone gets really unwell, or if you feel that the party or your night out is getting out of control, don’t hesitate to call Emergency Services.
