Something that’s happening at the moment

Hi ReachOut forums,

So this morning at school my brother was crying so I went up to him to see if he was okay and then basically this teacher said leave him alone he needs space what the fuck does that teacher know and then after the bell went to go into class I went to see if he was okay and then he told me to leave him alone and that he hates this school so I feel like someone is being mean to him at the moment and he won’t even tell me. And now because of it I’m having a huge panic attack and can’t tell anyone about it tbh.

Thanx

Hey @Tulip_Starling

Thanks for sharing what's been happening with your brother. It must have been so distressing to see him upset like that and for him not to tell you what was wrong. It can be really hard when someone we care about can't or won't let us in. Sometimes the best we can do at these times is to just be there for someone, so they know we are a safe person to talk to if they need. We do have an article which you might find helpful about how to be there for someone when they don't want help as well.

I can see by your posts from a couple years ago that you've experienced bullying yourself at school so it makes sense why you'd be so worried and panicking. It's a really caring thing that you did for your brother by checking in on him both times. Has there been anything else going on to make you feel concerned about him?

How are you feeling now? I saw you have a counsellor at headspace, have you talked through some things you can try when you are feeling panicked? We have some strategies you could try here if you're feeling stuck.

Looking forward to hearing from you

Hi reachout forums,

it was distressing for me tbh.thank you for the article tho.

yea that's mostly why i was worried and panicking because I've had to deal with it too many times i had to deal with it in year 7,8,9,and a little bit in year 10 but not as much.it's just mostly that and

Spoiler
i don't want him to hurt himself like i ended up doing to myself last year how i ended up hurting myself and ended up in hospital for it.

i'm feeling a little bit better now but not as much. I do have a counsellor at headspace. I haven't gotten to that stage about talking about things i can try when feeling panicked. Thank you for the article that i can read.

Thanx

Hi @Tulip_Starling,

Thank you for getting back to us and sharing your past experiences with bullying and self-harm, that takes a lot of strength.

I'm glad to hear that you're feeling a little better now and that you have a counsellor with Headspace. I understand that sometimes it can take time before you feel comfortable talking about certain topics with your mental health professional. Nevertheless, I'm glad to hear that you're proactive in taking care of yourself and seeking the support you need. I thought that this article on panic attacks could give you some techniques to help yourself during a panic attack.

Also we will be sending you an email soon! So keep an eye out for it!
