Thoughts on listening to a musician whose character may be in question.

Hey peeps.

I've recently, started listening to an musician, whose friend is most likely very problematic and probably a criminal. I don't know how to feel about the artist, if they're "friends" with this person. Like if I listen to their music, I'm not supporting the "friend". It's so annoying, because I love their music, but to find out that she might have a problematic friend. Is just, ugh.

I was hoping to just ask y'all if anyone has any information on how to deal with problematic artists. Like I want to continue listening to their music, but at the same time. I just feel like a crappy person if I do listen to their music.

Hi @ApplesRoses!

That situation sounds pretty tricky, especially if you're concerned about reactions from other people.
In my opinion (and this is just my opinion) listening to someone's music doesn't make you a bad person, even if their character is questionable. I can think of a lot of artists who have faced controversies in their career, yet people still enjoy their music.
In my view, what they did is not their music. We can still appreciate their music but not support their actions.
In your case, the artist is not responsible for what their friend does. Who knows, maybe they have shown concern in the past or voiced their disapproval of their friend. There is a lot that we don't know about famous people because the media does not reveal everything.

Hey! @WheresMySquishy

Thanks for your opinion, it's pretty true. My sibling gave the same answer, the artist is a seperate person from the friend and is not responsible for anything the friend does. It's definitely a tough topic to talk about since there's so many opinions on problematic artists and what to do.

Thanks for contributing 🙂
