Weekly Wellbeing: Make Your Own News Show/Article
This weekly wellbeing is inspired by a game I would play when I was younger. I pretended I was a news reporter and would film myself commentating on what was happening around my house during the day. For some bizarre reason my show was called "Show off your cat encore encore" 🤣 possibly because my cat would often star in these shows 😛
Anywayy I was thinking this could lead into a bit of a fun activity for us to try (I mean... depending on your idea of 'fun'). So this week, your challenge is to record, film, or write down notes about what you observe or do in the day (you won't be sharing any film/audio with us because that would break the guidelines!). Try to be as silly as you like with it- you could even make it totally fictional! Pretend you are a news reporter, journalist, weather presenter, talk show host, or even the star of a documentary. You might even like to do your best David Attenborough impression 😛 Try and have fun with it and don't get too serious.
Before you start
- Please be safe about this- don't go interviewing/filming/recording people without their permission or doing something unsafe/illegal/violating of people's boundaries
- Try and stick to neutral/small talk topics, like nature, the weather, food, pets, etc. This is supposed to be a light-hearted activity to notice positive or funny things each day, and to help if you are feeling bored or needing a break!
- Your 'story' can be fictional if you like- this activity is also about having fun and being creative!
- This is NOT intended to be a activity to record really serious issues like mental health difficulties, traumatic experiences, problematic relationships, etc. We'd prefer you reach out to a trusted support person, or you can check out some supports here if you are feeling at all distressed. This is because what you record/film will be for your own self-reflection and is intended as a wellbeing task- we won't know if you are talking about serious issues, and we don't want this activity to cause any distress! (If it does bring up any distress, please check out that link to supports)
- If you do decide to film or record yourself, it's probably best to do it indoors or in a quiet place where you won't disturb anyone! If you're not comfortable with filming or recording yourself, you might like to write down your 'news report'
The activity
(you don't have to follow this exactly, we encourage you to add your own spin on it if you like!)
- Decide whether you are going to write, record, or film for this activity. Choose what you're most comfortable with
- Each day in the week, spend ~5 minutes or more talking about or writing down what you're noticing- this could be something funny/cool/positive. Make it sound like you're a journalist, reporter, talk show host, or in a documentary. Try and be playful about it if you want, and remember what you write or say can even be totally or partly fictional! You could talk about your mission on Mars if you wanted! 😛
e.g. I decide to write down my 'news article' and pretend to be a journalist playing 'detective' (this story is fictional and really brief)
The Daily Bugle
Missing or stolen: the case of the lost cat toy
Today at approximately 6pm a plush cat toy was reported missing by an anonymous 2 year old cat. Reporters on the scene have blocked off the area to the general public. More to come. You heard it here first, at The Daily Bugle.
(the next day)
An interview with the cat
Our anonymous cat has decided to do an interview today about the loss of his favourite toy [pretend I filmed an interview with the cat 😅]
(the next day)
Reunited!
Our anonymous cat has been reunited with his favourite toy this morning. The missing toy was found under a blanket at the end of a bed. Tears of joy were sighted from all involved parties
- You can do this activity for as long as you like, it doesn't have to be each day of the week, and you can put as much or as little effort in as you would like
- At the end of the week or when you're finished your 'show/article', you can read back over, listen to, or watch what you've made! Did you make yourself laugh? Did you enjoy the activity? Did you learn anything about yourself?
- Write your reflections or any quotes from your show/article in the thread below 🙂 Please be mindful of the guidelines when sharing

Okay so I'm going to try and write an entry today
A Day In The Life Of A Lost Space Explorer
*intro tune plays*
And in the news today lost sucessfully conquers her fear of endoscopies when she manages to stay asleep during the whole procedure this time around. There is nothing horribly wrong so once again health anxiety has been caught red handed! There is a learning curve, however, as lost briefly learns to walk again, still a little uncoordinated from the anesthesia wearing off.
After a 'brief' nap upon returning home it is too late to go for a walk so lost has decided to do some stretching tonight as per her commitment for a fundraiser.
Ad plays: This update is sponsored by Our Guide To: Stretching 😛 Have you tried, stretching?! A revolutionary way to move your body. Try it now today
Tune in tomorrow for another day in the life and a guest appearance from a furry friend!
