Anxiety about getting a job
I lowkey wanna apply for a job especially at customer service related jobs at food stores or at some drink franchises because those places seem like the only easy ones to apply for a job at, but at the same time I’m really scared to apply for a job (well, any job really). I’m still on jobseeker payments though so that’s the thing I guess… it’s just that I know that I won’t be able to get along well with the other coworkers there because a lot of people in this world just don’t wanna be kind to everyone and they also don’t wanna make other people feel welcomed or belonged no matter what place it is.

I really don't have hopes to do well at a job no matter which job it is because all I care about is having a fixed mindset and having negative thoughts because I just want my expectations to be met yet people don't wanna give me the expectations that I wanted. I know I'm being harsh on myself and I always have not gonna lie, but that's the thing - if things don't turn out the way I expected or wanted then I would wanna escape and never come back again instead of wanting to continue on with it and having to deal with the (mental?) pain of it on a daily basis. It's not at all possible for me to develop a growth mindset because I'm not gonna see such things in a positive way, it's just not possible.
Hey @Blueberries
I just want to say thank you for posting because I'm sure many people will be able to relate and feel less alone.
Sorry you are feeling so anxious. It can be scary to not only start a new job, but also to apply for one. I guess it may have something to do with a fear of the unknown. Humans love predictability, routine, and habits. They make us feel more in control. When we start something new and don't really have a way of knowing what we're truly getting ourselves into, it can be scary.
When you're feeling anxious like this, what do you usually do to reduce your anxiety and feel better?
Hey @Blueberries
It's great to hear from you! I hope you have been well 😊
I think that sounds like a really great idea, and perhaps you could do a trial shift to see if it's something that you would enjoy?
It's very understandable that you are worried about how you will be treated by the other co-workers, especially as I know that you haven't had the best experiences in the past. I was wondering if perhaps there was a place that you've been to before, like a local food store or a drink franchise where the employees have been friendly to you? If you've been to any, perhaps this might make you feel more comfortable and might be a good option to apply. Do any come to mind?
I don't know if they offer trial shifts though to be honest...also i know for a fact that at the drink fanchises, the managers there don't really treat their employees very well and you're expected to know how to do everything without the manager themselves having to help you (from what i've read based on the reviews that people that worked there have)
i don't know to be honest, because most of those places that i've been to always have that one employee or some of them that give me bad vibes and are not the most welcomed or nicest people ever, so it's hard to say.
Hey @Blueberries ,
Good on you for even giving it a thought.
Do you have much experience with these shops? That is, do you 'know' the drinks? If you are familiar with it, it may help you if you do end up going for a bit of a trial shift like what @Blake_RO mentioned. I guess you can only ask. That's if you feel up to it.
I hear it can be very stressful applying for jobs, especially if you get 'bad vibes' from them.
Maybe it's about doing what feel right for you, so that you can ease yourself into it. But good on you for even giving it a thought.
I'd be interested to hear how things go.
Yes I do because I go to both of them at least once a week - especially the drink shops.
