I'm a bit late to this, but I also definitely have trouble opening up, especially if I'm not feeling great that day physically or mentally. I think it comes from not wanting to say the wrong thing. What I usually do is take some time- as much as I need (although I do try to push myself a little to open up quicker if I can). I try to mentally prepare myself for it and do some deep breathing. And if needed, I'll also draft something I want to say by quickly scribbling something down that I want to say. I'll then open up and talk to them, and i usually find that it goes way better than I thought it would!
