Hi @formismsocks and welcome to the forums.

I think it's so great that you're willing to look for information and advice so you can support your girlfriend better - you sound like a really supportive partner. When you talk about your girlfriend's past trauma, it seems like you're starting from a really strong awareness that eating disorders are about much more than food.

People with eating disorders often have to live with a lot of distressing negative thoughts about themselves, so it can be helpful to try to avoid getting drawn into talk about weight, shape, food or appearance if possible. Instead it may be more helpful to offer a listening ear and support, to let your girlfriend know how much you care for and value her, and to do things together that your girlfriend finds fun, distracting and meaningful.

You might have already come across them, but the Butterfly Foundation has excellent resources and information about eating disorders. They also run a helpline and support groups that are open to family and friends of people with eating disorders so they might be a good place to get some more support and advice. Eating Disorders Qld also has some good resources on their website in case they're of interest.
