One thing Ive heard recently that I really connected with was trying to think about a purchase that you want to make in terms of 'time' rather than in 'dollar' value.

So for example, if you want to buy a new sofa, rather than think its $1000, think of it as that would cost me two months of work, if i wish to buy it. Really good food for thought this way of thinking.
