Ace Awareness Week

Gay Pride GIF by Hello All

It's Ace Awareness Week! 💜🖤 So we wanted to celebrate all of our ace community members, provide some information on what being ace means and encourage you to share your experiences!

Words to know :

Ace : an umbrella term to describe identities where someone doesn’t experience sexual or romantic attraction; experiences attraction rarely; or only experiences it under limited situations.

Asexual : means not experiencing sexual attraction towards others

Aromantic : means not experiencing romantic feelings towards others

Grey-Sexual / Grey-Romantic : means rarely experiencing sexual attraction/romantic feelings towards others

Demi-Sexual / Demi-Romantic : means only experiencing sexual or romantic attraction towards someone when there’s an emotional bond with that person

You can find out more about what being ace is here.

I think I might be ace, what now?

Figuring out your sexuality can be a tough time with lots of questions, maybe some confusion, and possibly some stress about how to let people know. The main thing to remember is that there's no rush. Take your time to figure out what feels right for you, and remind yourself it's up to you if/when you want to share with others. We have a fantastic thread full of ace community members sharing their experiences here that we encourage you to read through and add your questions, feelings and thoughts to as well 😊 You can have a read through the stories of some more young ace people here too.

I want to read more about being ace!

We've had quite a few people in the ace community recommend reading 'Loveless' by Alice Oseman, so pop that on your list! There are also some more book suggestions here. And some great articles here that you might like to check out. Please feel free to add to this by commenting below with books, articles, movies or TV shows you've loved seeing ace representation in! 👏
