Hey @AndyDufresne ,
Good on your for reaching out on the forums! I guess you don't have to wait until you are 18 to join Youth Forums. It sounds like you are a deep thinker and have really thought many things through. I read that you have been doing your level best to find someone to support you and talk to you - yet this hasn't really worked out yet.
It's understandable you have all these questions floating around in your mind. Sometimes, we just think, "Is it even worth it?" Depending on the size of your school, maybe you just haven't found that one person who is on the same wavelength as you e.g. have the same understanding of friendship, have similar interests etc. I'm not sure of the size of your school or your year level, but you can imagine that if your year level has 80 students, your options are quite limited compared to a school with 300 students per year level.
Hence, not being about to find that one special friend is not a necessarily a reflection of you as a failure. Rather, it could be seen that you have a deep understanding of friendship and won't call every person a 'friend'. It's one thing to befriend someone just by saying 'hi'; it's another thing for a friendship to be built on real values and understanding.
Here's an article you might find helpful: How to make friends at school.
Another thing I should point out is that you are you mentioned you might wait until you are 18 to join sport groups, go to the gym more, join depression support groups.... Are there some things you can start doing now? You might find more like-minded people this way e.g. at a local footy club.
What do you think?
