Earth Hour

What is Earth Hour?

Earth Hour is one of the most well known global environmental initiatives. The aim of Earth Hour is to combat climate change and celebrate biodiversity by encouraging people across the world to turn off their lights for 1 hour on Saturday March 23rd 2024. Earth Hour gets us thinking about the amount of energy we use (or waste) every single day which contributes to our planet heating up. This is a process known as climate change or global warming. Earth Hour is a chance to show that you care about the future of our planet and want to do your part in looking after it!

How can you participate in Earth Hour?

You can participate in Earth Hour by switching off your electricity between 8:30pm to 9:30pm on Saturday the 23rd of March 2024. You can also remind your friends and family to switch off their non-essential lights and all other unnecessary electrical appliances during Earth Hour and beyond.

Things to do during Earth Hour?

  • Have a candlelit dinner with your family, friends, a partner, roommate, or by yourself.
  • Lay down outside and stargaze.
  • You can invite friends and family over and play board games with a candlelight or solar powered light.

It can get a bit overwhelming thinking about climate change and global warming. Participating in global initiatives like Earth Hour is a great way to help cope with climate anxiety. Get some more tips on how to cope in this article, or join the community discussion here.

Will you be participating in Earth Hour? If so, what activity will you be doing during the hour?
