New At Work
Hi all - hope you are well!
I have been at my new job for a couple of months now. It involves working closely with younger children and their families and complements my personal and professional interests very well. I really enjoy my work and the connections I make; however, I have definitely felt like an "imposter" and that I am not suitable for the role (a clear cognitive distortion). Ways I have combated these thoughts include:
- Acknowleding my feelings and that they can be a very common experience.
- Challenging these negative thoughts and testing them against "cold hard proof."
- Setting realistic goals and expectations which emphasise that I am NOT meant to know everything and seek support from senior staff members.
So, if anyone else feels a bit out of their depth in the workforce, at school or university - you are NOT alone! Hopefully some of these tips you already are helpful. Looking forward to hearing more comments/suggestions!
