@justkeepswimming I agree! It will definitely feel good to get it off your chest. Maybe you could just let your friends know that you’ve been feeling quite down lately- no need to go into detail if you don’t feel comfortable.

Hey @justkeepswimming! So glad you came to the forums to speak up about this. I’m so sorry you’ve been feeling like this at night. It must be very unsettling and unnerving. It’s so good you’ve been speaking to your KHL counsellor for almost a year now! She sounds like she’s super supportive and caring. I think if you feel comfortable you should share the current thoughts you’re having with your counsellor- regardless of how specific they are. It might also be a good idea to let her know about your worries of going to hospital- I’m sure she’ll be able to put your mind at ease and give you some great advice. In terms of speaking to your friends about your thoughts- there is no pressure to tell anyone and you should do so on your own terms and only if/when you feel comfortable. Do have one or two close friends you could share these thoughts with?

Hi @Blurryphaced, this sounds like a difficult and overwhelming situation. How are you feeling this morning? Is there anyone you feel comfortable with that you could sit with during lunch to make you feel more relaxed? Or are you able to sit somewhere more quiet and not as busy? I hope it all goes well today, you’ve got this!

Hey @Princess_204 this sounds really tough. I’m sorry that you feel as though people have judged you on the way you dressed or looked- it’s such a shame that people can still be so superficial. It can be so hard to find confidence if you constantly feel like people are bringing you down. Do you have a couple of close friends that you feel like you can rely on? I often find that I’m more comfortable in smaller groups because I get more of a chance to speak and express my opinion. Maybe you could start by hanging out with one or two people who you feel comfortable with and then try to branch out more?

Hey @iwantkrispykremedonuts this sounds really difficult. It can be so hard when you really like someone but you're not entirely sure how they're feeling or what they want. I think it might be a good idea to give it some time (I know this is easier said than done). It could be good to wait a few weeks and then reassess how you're feeling. Maybe you could text him then to see how he's feeling as well. How are you feeling about it all now?

Hey @pstlcims, this sounds like an incredibly difficult situation. I can definitely understand that you may be feeling trapped and overwhelmed- your friend definitely sounds like she is a negative influence in your life. I've been going through something similar recently and it truly is a horrible feeling. It also sounds like you really empathise with A and feel really bad for him which is completely understandable. Have you been speaking to him recently?

Hey @number20 ! This sounds super frustrating- I know when I have a bad sleep I feel absolutely horrible the next day. It ruins my mood and I struggle to focus. I struggle to sleep sometimes and the root of my bad sleeps is often stress. Sometimes I just find it really hard to switch off and can't sleep at all. If I'm feeling this way I lie on my back with my legs flat on the bed, my hands on my stomach and focus on my breathing. I try not to move from this position and often I am able to fall asleep as I'm not focusing on anything but my breathing. Maybe you could try this too?

Hey @Rosemmbles! I can definitely relate to this post. Although I do have a big group of female friends I find that the time we spend together is filled with drama and bitchiness at times. I often wish that everyone would be more chilled out and would just want to spend time together and have fun without all the fuss and fighting. I'm finding now that I just take a step back from it all if I think everyone is being too intense and dramatic. In terms of what stuff I'd like to be doing with female friends I'd love to do some wholesome activities- similar to the ones you listed.

Hey @Love_elmo77 it can definitely be hard meeting new people because it can difficult to understand who they really are. I don’t think you should feel bad about the comment that another volunteer made about you being born in Australia. It sounds like he could just be making general conversation but it can definitely be hard to tell if you don’t know the person well. When interacting with people you’re not familiar with it can definitely be difficult to get a gauge on who they are as a person. I know that I’m definitely someone who can overthink social interactions for a long while afterwards but I’ve found that it only gets me down so I try to avoid it. Is this something that you do as well?

I think it’s a great first step that you can acknowledge that you may be paranoid about society and after the year we’ve had I don’t blame you! I’m just trying to move into 2021 with a positive outlook and leave everything that happened in 2020 behind. Are you doing anything to manage your stress and anxiety at the moment?

Hey @Bento that is awesome!! It’s so good to hear that you’re making some progress in counselling and I’m so glad to hear that you’re feeling a bit better today. It sounds like you’re being super proactive and are trying to get in control of your catastrophising. If you feel comfortable, let us know how counselling goes tomorrow :)

Hey @Bento, it sounds like you’re going through a really difficult time again. I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling like this again. I totally understand your anxiety and stress- it can be hard to expect that next year will be better when this year was so difficult. I truly do feel that next year will be better. The vaccine seems to be effective so far and I feel as though we’re learning to deal with COVID better. Have you been able to share these worries with your mum? If not do you think this would be helpful?

Hey @Bento! so nice to hear from you again and that you had a fun weekend away with your mum. Were you able to forget about the stress for a bit and just enjoy your trip? I hope so! I also think it’s completely normal to have put on some weight during and after lockdown. I know i certainly have. I think a lot of people were using food as a form of comfort. It was a difficult period and we needed good food to get through it so don’t beat yourself up for eating a little more than usual. As for continuing to feel stressed and mentally unhealthy I think you’ve come up with some great ideas in the past to manage these feelings. Did you ever get around to trying hypnotherapy?

It sounds like such a good idea to start looking at your body as a vessel for your soul. Hopefully this will change the way you view food and nourishment. I totally understand how the thoughts come and go as well. I feel as though in the past some days I have felt so confident about myself and others I have felt absolutely horrible. I think now I try to surround myself with people that lift me up and focus less on what I look like and more on who I am as a person.

Hey @indieinsanus! I think it’s super common for young adults and teenagers to have similar thoughts and feelings. Unfortunately we’re constantly exposed to unrealistic beauty standards and the expectation that we should be a size 000 rather than be healthy, fit and strong. When I was younger I definitely had similar thoughts and I know the majority of my friends did as well. I know it’s easier said than done but I look at food as a way of fuelling my body. It gives me energy and keeps me functioning at my peak- it shouldn’t be something that I’m scared of. Have you tried speaking to your friends or those close to you about it? I’m sure there would be others around you who are in the same boat and could share some insight. It’s so great to hear that you’ve tried to contact the butterfly foundation. Hopefully you can get in touch with them soon!

Agreed with @Bre-RO it has been an incredibly tough year. I’m still trying to shake off the anxiety and stress as well. It’s so nice to hear you’re looking forward to things towards the end of the year. My mum and I love Christmas as well (we go a bit overboard with christmas carols and decorations). So exciting to hear about the gig as well! I can’t wait to do more of that next year.

Hi @raineghjkl, this sounds like a really tough situation with your partner and would be even more difficult with you being pregnant. I’m sure you’re exhausted and quite frustrated. It sounds like you’re partner really cares about you but his alcoholism is becoming more of a problem. Have you tried to tell him how you feel about his drinking? Maybe he would benefit from seeing a psychologist to help deal with his alcoholism. It sounds like you’re dealing with a lot of stress at the moment so try to take care of yourself.
