I think the way in which year 12 is spoken about makes it seem like the biggest and most life-changing decision you'll ever face. I know I felt so much pressure to know exactly how I wanted my life to go, which in hindsight seems ridiculous because you have so much time to figure out what you like and what you're passionate about. I didn't even know what I wanted to do until after I left school!

Hey safari93!Some of my mates had no idea what they wanted to do, but one of the best things one of them did was to have a gap year.
After that, he knew way better what he wanted to do.
On my side, I thought engineering was gonna be for me... but look where I am now!
I think by the time we leave school we know what we like, but we're not sure of our career path... which is fine!
You've gotta make your decisions based on what you're interested in, and later on focus in on that and specialise.

I agree with you @safari93, the way it is spoken about it's like this (finishing year 12) is the one chance you have to determine the whole future of your life, which is so scary, but so not true. I didn't figure out what I wanted to do until after school either!- Mark as New

year 12 isn't the be all and end all of your entire life, I know people who did awesome in year 12 high atar and all... haven't found something they actually like, but I know people (myself as an example) who didn't even get there or didn't do as well as expected and are getting jobs, into courses, all that sort of thing. So really, year 12 is important, but you don't get an atar or enter score of something in 90's you'll stil be ok, srsly.

Great advice @j95!
Now, my next questoin for all of you is: before exams, stress levels can sky rocket. What’s your go-to stress buster before a big exam?

Same here @Chessca_H, my school put such a huge emphasis on doing well! It was quite unsettling at times how stressed out everyone was getting

I definitely agree with @AndrewMorley I had a lot of friends who started off doing what they thought they should do (ie careers that earn the big bucks or careers that their parents wanted them to do). However it really is about doing what you're passionate about and interested in!

Heya team! Thanks for coming along @AndrewMorley.
My question is... if you could go back and do Year 12 again, what's the one thing you'd do differently?

Hola friends! So stoked that Summer Bay is coming to ReachOut.com tonight! Andrew Morley is here to chat about year 12, exams, stress and life after it’s all over! We’ve got a couple of other legends on our panel - Doug, one our ReachOut.com crew, and Gail - a ReachOut Youth Ambassador and provisional psychologist!
Here’s how tonight is going to work. We’re going kick off tonight with an old school forum chat here, and then take it to the live video stream at 8:30 up there ↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑. Post your question for Andrew and the panel by replying to this post and telling us “My question for Andrew is…”. The most high-fived questions will go live to Andrew the panel on the video stream at 8:30.
If you’re new, please check out our community guidelines, and make sure you keep yourself anonymous here on ReachOut. We’re not a counselling service, so if you’re feeling upset or overwhelmed at any point, then it’s important that you connect with our friends at Kids Helpline by phone or webchat.
So, here’s what we want to know from you. There is so much pressure put on year 12, yet all our #thereslifeafter videos kinda said it ain’t all that. Where does all this pressure come from?

There is so much pressure put on year 12, yet all our #thereslifeafter videos kinda said it ain’t all that. Where does all this pressure come from?
Hey everyone!
Ahh, pressure! For me it came from so many places.
1. My school - My school wanted its students to do well. We focused really hard to exams, how to study for them and how to succeed. It was however a very nurturing school and did so much for its students. I love it to bits.
2. My friends - We were quite a competitive bunch, and we always wanted to do well.
3. My family - My parents were paying for me to go to a private school. So I felt the pressure to do well, even though I know they tried their hardest to not pressure me.
4. MYSELF! - This one is the kicker. I put so much pressure on myself to be 'perfect' and to succeed. It really wasn't worth the mental toll that it took on me.
My question for Andrew: I hear you have a gorgeous dog that you love - what's his name, what breed is he, how long have you had him and what is his favourite activity?
