And I also took him to his first NRL game this year. We also bond over our love for sport.

@stonepixie such a nice surprise he'll get!! @j95 sorry that you didn't have these experiences growing up, maybe try thinking of any other male role models and how they have made you happy or smile at one point in your life.

Tonight we have discussed the impact on fathers in our lives. Fathers day means something different to all of us, some love the idea others see it as another day. Regardless their is no wrong or right way to view fathers day.  We have appreciated that it can be a hard day for some that grew up without a father figure or have lost their father.  Fathers make us laugh, they love us, they care for us and most importantly they look out for us. We might not all see that in our fathers but we have to remember the different relationships we share with our parents.

Getting our fathers gift can be easier than imagined, father's are usually content and happy with anything. From the odd socks, ties or 'best dad' mug to something as simple as spending time with them.

We agree that a Father ideally would be loving, supportive, breakdown gender sterotypes and overall a role model. We bond with our fathers in different ways, some enjoy bonding with their dad others just do it for everyday peace. Whatever your relationship with your father or father figure we have to acknowledge that no two people will ever have the same opinion on their fathers and that is totally fine. We all experience life in different ways and have to build our own path from what we are given. Although it can be hard to talk about your father especially if you've lacked having a good relationship with him it can also help you overcome that.

So this Fathers Day whatever you might be doing, or not doing, remember to appreciate your dad or father figure and remind them how much you love them or enjoy the beautiful Sunday with friends or even just spend it like any other Sunday.

Thank you for joining tonight have yourself a good night

Dad and I go out fishing together, put together flat packs and he is the only one who will talk politics with me. Oh, I should say that he doesn't know I'm coming home this wkd.

A father should be loving, supportive, a role model. He should help break down gender stereotypes.

what’s the role that a father/father figure plays in a child’s life?
They offer support, just like any parent.

5. What is the best, worst or cheesiest present that you can think of to give a father or father figure?

This reminds me of a funny memory. When I was in foster care I lived with these kids who got their dad mugs full of lollies from the fathers day stall. We ate all the lollies the night before and gave
Him the empty mugs. He was impressed...

I don't know really. But as a fathers day gift something really generic would be one of the worst, or cheesiest, like a mug that says best father ever or a shirt or something. Hehe. Or a tea towel.

@j95 that is really funny! I would do that to.

Oh right. The best thing would be something that suits your father/father figure. My dad loves comics and stuff so I'd get him something relating to that. Which reminds me of an amusing memory. I went out to the shops and found a superhero figurine and bought it with the intent of giving it to him... but then I changed my mind because I liked it too much. Ah well! I gained an awesome figurine.

@j95 If continuing on with talking about this topic is getting really uncomfortable, it's ok to take some time out or leave it for tonight. If you would like someone to talk to, you can start a thread on the forums, refer to emergency help or ring 1800 RESPECT. I can definitely understand that this is a tough topic to talk about . I think it could be helpful to focus on positive male role models in your life.

Here comes our next question!

5. What is the best, worst or cheesiest present that you can think of to give a father or father figure?

> My dad is pretty apathetic when it comes to gifts, so it's usually the same coffee + pair of socks combo that he gets each year. He seems content to get those. But I must say that  I found something astonishing a few years ago. My dad really likes macarons. The sweet French meringue-based biscuit thing, that he usually refers to as 'small cakes (because he honestly doesn't really know what they are)'. I thought this was a win! Gives me an excuse to buy them more often Smiley Very Happy
