Must see travel locations

Hey guys! After talking with some people other about great spots to go to in Japan, @ElleBelle suggested we take it to its own thread because I'm sure everyone could benefit from other's experiences overseas!
Let's hear it, what are some amazing hidden treasures around the globe?

Hi all,

I love, love, love to travel! What an awesome idea for a forum thread @ElleBelle 🙂 At the beginning of this year I spent 5 weeks travelling around Europe with my sister and had the best time. Top 3 highlights would defiantly be Salzburg in Austria (a beautiful town which surrounds a mountain) very stunning, Edinburgh in Scotland (lots of history and a great place to just walk around) and Amsterdam in the Netherlands (again lots of history and it's so fun to just walk around the canals).

The really great thing we found on our trip is that most places have free walking tours which are heaps of fun and a great way to find out some interesting facts about the city you're in. Is anyone planning a trip soon?

@N1ghtW1ng those undersea lakes in Swiss Alps sound amazing - looks like my next trip is to Switzerland!

@N1ghtW1ng wow the undersea lakes are something I've always wanted to see, are they those ones that are like under caves? There are heaps in Mexico, which is a must see location for me

I was there at the start of spring @Craycray17 so it was a little chilly but there were cherry blossoms - yay! I've also been to see those underwater caves in Mexico you were talking about, the cenotes. I actually got to go swimming in one called Dos Ojos. It was so weird to come out of the water feeling clean and not need to shower, after being so used to swimming in the ocean. There are little blind catfish in there too and they nibble at your feet which is ticklish but really cool 🙂

@Craycray17 yep. In Postojna it's caves and in Switzerland there's the largest undersea lake in Europe. Both are awesome.

Hadrians wall in England is a must see. I wish I could have gone to the stone henge while I was in England too but I did see Sweden's version which was pretty cool.

Well, there are the caves in Postojna, Slovenia which are really nice to see.
The Swiss alps are absolutely beautiful as well. There's the largest undersea lake in Europe in that region. Also, conveniently, in that region is the largest dam in Europe (free too, unless you pay for the gondola).

Nice one @Craycray17! I loved the Golden Pavillion (Kinkaku-ji) in Japan. I believe it's near Kyoto. I got to see a maeko (sort of like a geisha in training) walking around the gardens and had a photo with her 🙂
