Pen-pal kinda thing
Hey girls and guys,
So I've been thinking and because I have such an annoying time communicating with people in person, I was thinking of offering myself up as a penpal of sorts on here. I know you can private message on here now -hence my thinking, although personally I prefer email.
So - let me tell you about myself and then you can decide whether I'm your type of person or not. I'm Emily -most people call me Emm. I'm 21. I'm naturally blonde, but felt like a change so my hair is kinda a brunettey red. I'm about 5'8 and I have blue eyes (people say that apparently my eyes are the sparkiling blue kind - unless I'm mad. I consider myself bisexual - leaning more towards girls romantically, but on the other hand I'm mainly looking for girl friends right now (well any friends). I'm from Brisbane, and I work in daycare/school. I enjoy reading - like lots. My favorite authors are Jodi Piccoult, Torey Hayden, and Suzanne Collins. My favorite books are Hate List - by Jennifer Brown and Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I love music - I'm extremely broad yet fussy in my taste of music - my main favourites are Jack Carty, Julia Stone, Taylor Swift and the cast of Glee - however I also listen to and love a wide variety of music from Demi Lovato, to Kelly Clarkson, to Dido, and other varieties. I'm not really a movies person - I don't really have a favourite movie (besides Fox and the Hound). TV isn't really my thing either - I watch Glee, Prettly Little Liars (although I'm a bit behind on that), and have finished several anime series (Clannad, Toradora! and Kashimashi to name a few)
Now onto the "fun" stuff. I have Aspergers so forgive me if I come off as judgmental or I say something that's offensive - 99% of the time I don't mean it at all - and if I do mean it - I'll tell you that I mean it that way (I rarely will). I have a few different types of anxiety and depression as well - nothing I really feel like talking about - I deal with it in the best way for me possible. I have a mum, stepdad, my bio father (who I don't see), a brother (10) and 2 sisters (7). I'm still living at home unfortunetely due to several circumstances - I'd kill for the independance of moving out 😛
So - if I seem like your type of person - drop me a "private message" and we'll go from there 🙂 Hope to hear from people soon. 🙂
xoxo
Emm

Hay I'm new. My name is bethany but Beth is fine. i am a little younger but i need some friends or it is going to get boring. i am nearly 15 so yer. i love music too and i write my own songs, i love water sports, just hanging and sleeping. do u want to be friends? i will introduce myself a little better if interested.
Hey Beth. What type of songs do you write? Do you play any instruments?...Sleeping is good. I like sleeping. And dreaming 🙂
just raps and songs about my emotions and life in general. i don't play an instrument. do u ?dreamin is pretty good. it makes life interesting.
I play guitar - but on a little kid kinda level. I'm a bit lazy with it.
I've been wanting to do this for a while.
I'm Hal. I'm a 16 year old guy from Sydney. I have brown hair that used to be styled like Leonardo Dicaprio but now is more like Edward Cullen. I have bright blue eyes and I'm about 174cm tall. I enjoy listening to music, hanging with my friends and girlfriend, watching movies, visiting Utopia Records in Sydney (if you see me, say hi ), performing in my band and sometimes just being in my own space. My favorite bands are Misfits, Josh Ritter, Breaking Benjamin and FFDP, but it really depends on my mood. I love watching horror movies but I like any sort of movies that aren't crap. My idea of a great party is a few friends with food watching movies and playing games. I don't see the appeal of getting drunk and doing stupid sh!t. I want to meet new people and if you ever see me at Utopia Records, come say Hi 🙂
I have severe depression, anxiety and a bit of Aggressive Obsessive Disorder. I was diagnosed with depression when I was about 13 and the anxiety and AOD followed a few years later. I am currently on medcation and it does help a bit but the main thing that makes me happy is hanging with good friends and my girlfriend. I have self-harmed and have been close to suicide. For a while I tried to make myself better by getting into drinking and drugs but I never went to crazy parties for them, I would use them in my own time. I have gotten over it but have had urges to take up smoking again.
I haven't been getting emails lately so I apologise for missing your comments.
Tell me about your band Hal? What type of band is it? What do you play? Do you play originals or covers? You on Youtube at all?
Hi @drhalloween aka Hal! great to have you here I love the misfits too!
And yea combat wombat are great, and fun to see live, TW...
This my fav song:
(oh, and yea, @drhalloween: it probably is close breaking the community guides to say places where you hang out and describing what you look like!!! check the guidelines here it's important to stay anonymous here!! But saying the city you live in, how old you are and what you like is all fine!!)
@Sophie-RO Sorry, I probably should have checked the guidelines beforehand sorry about that 😕
I'll be more careful next time
I'm going to join in on this. Some of you might know I live in Adelaide by the posts I've commented on, and some of the places I like to go, but I'll refrain from describing myself in case someone recognises me! Adelaide isn't that big!
I think its ok to say where you live, how old you are and what you like, but telling people places where you hang out and describing what you look like is a bit dangerous.
But I will say that I'm a big guy, I weigh over 100kg but I lost 6kg recently, and I'm on my way back to 90kg! Yay for me!
@Sophie-RO I love combat wombat! I have a friend who is in their outfit, and saw them on TV on rage one night, and then had to buy their album. I didn't even know about it until I saw it on TV!
I like hip hop too, but I prefer trip-hop. Bands like Portishead and Massive Attack or Morcheeba. I also like punk rock, and think that being punk is an attitude, and more about media than a particular sound of music. I see a lot of bands that are labeled punk for their genre, because the music has distorted guitars, and is fast, but that's not punk rock. Sorry. I also really like heavy rock, like Tool or ACDC, but I think a lot of bands just play heavy and forget to actually play or sing, this really annoys me. I also like folk music, which is just a better kind of pop. Most pop music makes me sick. Its just generic, over produced crap, and has no soul at all. Plus most of those studio guys can't even sing live, its just all about the music video, and dancing or pretty girls, and fake egos.
A thing about hip hop, I hate gangsta music, or any kind of gangsta related crap. Its not cool, its blacksploitation and a lot of young black kids forget their roots. Hip-hop used to be about grabbing old soul records and laying down some nice rap. Back in the day when rhythm and blues and funk were popular. That kind of R&B has musical merit. Hats off to some of those R&B singers today, they can definitely sing, but they've lost their way a bit, if you ask me. Its just terrible the way the big producers conduct their business. I'm sure there are still a lot of young black people with soul, making great music, but you will never hear about it, or at least I never hear about it. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I know nothing about tough suburban life, but I think its a negative cultural icon. There's way too much anger or sex in popular rap and r&b and its not healthy for anyone. Musicians are supposed to be the moral leaders in our community, they should be sending a better message.
I also really like electronica and drum and bass. Pendulum are one of my favourite bands, and appropriately Knife Party are my favourite producers. The shit they come up with is phenomanal, and the energy of Pendulum live is like nothing I've ever experienced. My sister lives in Bristol UK which is basically the home of drum and bass, and if I could I would probably go and live there. I went to a festival in Somerset, and at nights they have a club atmosphere. I thought it would be like an australian club, but I was so wrong. The music they dropped was on another level! You just have to go there and hear it for yourself.
ok, enough from me and my old man issues!
Welcome to the crew, Emm! 🙂
Just to let you know, I don't think it's good to post so many detailed information about youself, true this is a safe place to seek help, but you can not predict what kind of people come across this site and how they use other people's information. 😄
Have a think about that and I hope you don't talk this as a offence - I know this may not offend you but when I say stuff like this to people through some forums, some people take it in the wrong way! 😕 <===> ;D
So yeah. You sound like a very honest person and honesty is a very good skill to develop in anyone's character - and you got it! There are so little of people who are honest these days! 🙂
You have a colourful personality! 🙂 hehehehe and I like that! 😄 If a personality ain't colourful, i suppose it would be B-O-R-I-N-G!!!!! 😜
Ummm I have no idea what else to say but I guess I could say "Heylo, what's up? How's life? How is your occuption or education?!" 😄
+ You don't need to answer my questions if you don't want to! 🙂
~ Doni99 (Stage name: The Epic God Dog) ;D
Thanks for the heads up - I personally felt I gave a general overview of myself - but different opinions are always awesome (hence why I made this post in the first place)
You're right - I know a few people (namely girls) that don't seem to have any personality at all and they drive me absolutely INSANE. I can't do it - it's like you either have YOUR opinion, YOUR thoughts, and YOUR feelings -or don't say anything at all. Don't just be a drone for the rest of your life. BORING
My career path is going well - obviously for privacy reasons I'm not going to state what I do (See 😛 I do limit myself to how much information I give) and for now my education is basically finished. I'm considering doing a librarians course next. As for life in general - if I had a little crystal ball - it would be so much easier 😛 what about you - what do you do? Who ARE you? (I mean that as in - your personality, your tastes, etc)
This sounds like fun 😛
About me... I'm an almost 17 year old girl from Melbourne. I have a younger sister and live with both of my parents and my dog Yoyo. People who meet me always describe me as a) really quiet and b) really smart. I'm in year 11 and when I finish school I hope to move to Brisbane and study psychology. My dream is to be a researcher 🙂 I LOVE reading, and at the moment I'm reading Game of Thrones. I hardly ever watch TV except for Spongebob Squarepants, which I also love. I'm a massive AFL fan (gotta fit in with the Melburnian stereotype) and I barrack for the Sydney Swans. My favourite type of music is pop punk/punk rock in general - think Green Day, Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World etc. I'm a vegetarian (no fish but some eggs) and plan on becoming a vegan once I leave home. I've had my fair share of mental health issues but I am finally at the stage where I am genuinely happy with where I'm heading in life - I'm going to travel the world, learn languages, show people that living green is awesome and change the way we view mental health issues through research. Needless to say I think I'm pretty great 😛
Soz if i sound mean when i said that! ;D Bro, though this forurm is annoymous and stuff, there are actually really weird people out there who like stalking people and try to destory their lives, many incidents happened that was on the news. I think you should be cautionous before you put up info especially info where you live! 🙂 Hey I love how you chat wit all of us and by saying to limit your info doesn't mean you 'shut up!' 😄 Wind up instead! ;D You don't have to listen to me but i thought it was good for me to let you know these things ;D
xxx
@Doni99 You do realize four million people live in Melbourne, right? 😛 That was the only real identifying info I gave in that post; pretty hard to track me down with just that. 🙂 And although this isn't really an appropriate debate to have here on the forums, I'd highly recommend doing some research on a guy called Rupert Murdoch and how he controls almost everything you see/hear/read.
I definitely don't deny that stalking happens and it's absolutely horrible when it does, but the media will have you believe these incidents are a lot more common than they really are (i.e. biased/skewed reporting)
It's awesome you're looking out for other forum members though, and I want to re-iterate your point on making sure we're safe online and to not give out personal identifying information to strangers, just to be on the safe side 🙂
However, it's totally cool to swap info about your interests etc here in this thread - just no personal details!
Any questions, just ask!
Question/suggestion for the site - why not have the private message function open for the over 18's? That way if someone lies about their age and therefore has acccess to things that may make them unsafe- the responsiblity falls back on them and their parents.
Well - in that case, feel free to chat to me here peoples.
Another reason is for everyone's safety, not just under 18s. We can't ensure that the content of private messages are in line with the guidelines, and we don't want to put you at risk of receiving something that is going to be triggering or damaging to you...
We have certain ethical and even legal obligations to take steps to ensure that by bringing lots of people together here to talk about mental health and wellbing, we are not doing anyone any harm.
Does that make sense? Let me know if not...
Phew! So after all that serious stuff is now done I thought I'd answer a little bit of the original purpose of this thread!!
So, I also love reading and music... My favourite books are Lord of the Rings and the Earth Sea series by Ursula Le Guin! But I also really like books about musicians or rock/metal/punk music history and most recently I have read Hell Bent for Leather: Confessions of a Heavy Metal Addict by Seb Hunter and Neon Angel, by Cherie Curie who was the original singer in The Runaways.
So, my true music love is punk rock, but I also like metal and rock and pop. I really love top 40 pop/rnb too. And hip hop, I love political hip hop especially like Dead Prez or closer to home, Combat Wombat....
I really really love being near the ocean or in the ocean. One day I'd love to move to the bush, but on the coast. That would be dreamy!
Completely understandable - and if I was the type of person to be READY to socialize with new people in person/in a communtiy setting - I would totally see your point 😛 Logic works for me in any situation but when I'm emotional. Can't be logical when I'm emotional.
Can't say we really have any music/books in common besides the whole top 40 thing - and I'm very picky with what I like top 40 wise - because of my career choices (working with kids) I'm very careful as to my entire image that I project into society. I tend to make sure that I don't listen to music that can potray me as something different if the wrong person heard me listening to someting (in public I mean) but yeah - the ocean is one of my favourite places to go. And parks - I love to just sit and read anywhere lol - it drives most of my friends batty that I can pay more attention to a book than to them.
Side note/question: Is there a way you guys could either link/connect us to a site where we can make individual friendships - or maybe even get me in touch with someone who could help me make a site like that? I'm a big ideas person and I'm already thinking of stuff like how the website could still promote community awareness, keep us all safe and unharmed, yet still give us all an opportunity to make individual friends....I have too many ideas at once 😛
