Body image and negative talk

I've been self conscious for 3 years now. I've never felt good in my own skin and absolutely hate myself! I'm trying to think positive exercise eat well but it's so hard and I always give up. There's like a voice in my head telling me I can't to it and all that. I can't push myself and my step dad has tried to help me but I gave up I just feel so hopeless what do I do?

hey @Emilyjones11

i can definitely empathise with you when it comes to body images and how we can never be comfortable with our own skin. I used to be so self conscious that i literally avoided people because i was so scared of being judge. I understand that you've had troubles trying to create a positive body perception and asked your step dad for some help and asking for help is a good thing. We can start by identifying reasons as why you're self conscious, why you've never felt good in your own skin and why you hate yourself so we can think of ways and strategies for you so you won't give up on creating a positive perception of your body. It's best to let out all your emotions first. You don't always have to change to be more confident in your own skin. 🙂

Hey @Emilyjones11, being self conscious for that long must be seriously tough! It sounds like you have been putting in a lot of effort! Right now it seems like changing how you look is really important to you at the moment, what's making you feel like changing? What do you feel like needs to change?

I wanted to let you know that you are not alone. These things impact many many young people. You are more than a physical appearance.. I can already see that you are brave by posting here because it can be a scary thing to do!

Heyy @Emilyjones11

It's one of the toughest things i think we all deal with, loving ourselves the way we are/look.

When i started hating the way my body shape was, how i looked, i started picking out my flaws, it wasn't until i started questioning myself into how all this self hate started, where it stemmed from. You said it started 3 years ago, if you can remember, going back to where you started having those kind of thoughts. For an example mine came from seeing certain celebrities looking and being in amazing shape, my friends, family, basically people around me, i would constantly compare and put myself down until i realized that thinking the way i was, was getting me nowhere, i did not want to continue down that path so i slowly taught myself to reverse the thoughts from self hate to self love. I think trying to find out where these thoughts stem from is a step to moving on from them, even start working on slowly shifting your thoughts/changing them, looking in the mirror and just simply smiling at yourself. Exercise and eating well can change someones appearance but i feel that in the end of the day the mind is so powerful, shift that and you'll find you will start accepting yourself even more!

I believe in you @Emilyjones11! 🙂

Hey @Emilyjones11 I'm really sorry you feel this way I know how difficult it can be to not be comfortable with how you look. Just remember to start small and pick smaller obtainable goals for yourself and work your way from there and not just fitness goals, mental goals too. You can do this, it's just about taking things a little bit at a time Heart Heart

Hi @Emilyjones11, I definitely understand how you feel! We can always easily spot out our own flaws and insecurities.

It's not easy telling ourselves to always think positive and exercise.  However, what I found work in helping increase my self esteem was learning about positive self-talk. Let me know what you thinkSmiley Happy
