borderline crippling
its the second last time i'll be sitting high-school exams but unfortunately its just not working out for me
i cant take this shit anymore, all this work and revision has been so overwhelming and dreadful and everyone's like "oh you have to revise and motivate yourself" like fuck off its not that simple. schools are notorious for poorly spacing out exams and this year is no exception, i cant fucking do this anymore and i don't think i can even apply for seas/des
why cant schools just do something to minimise parental pressure for senior students
also I'm sorry i don't reply I've been very very out of it

Hi @yeah_it_tahtperson
Thank you for sharing your feelings and your story. I am sorry that you have to go through such a difficult time.
I feel like you don't think that advices others shared to you was very helpful is that right?
I just finished high school and I can share what I experienced but I hope something I did will sympathise with you 🙂
- Talk to a teacher or career adviser: I found that they can assist you in building a future path that you want
- Connect with friends and classmates: talking with others helped me realised that they are all experiencing the same thing and I was really comforting to that I wasn't alone
- Take a step back: while that are so many things all happening at the same time, noting down all the things I need to do helped me prioritise them more efficiently so I don't miss anything important
- Dedicate time for self-care: choosing a time that suitable for you to relax, I know this souns like a really general advice but I took it a step further and really commit to giving myself time to enjoy my own company
- Be discipline: now that you have dedicate time for you, you can do the same for study; dedicate some time for study and commit to it!
- Rewards yourself: choose something you really want to do, e.g watch a movie that you love, and make it a reward for your hard work; it made studying more enjoyable for me
I hope that these things can sympathise with you and help you a little. If there is anything that I misintepret about your story and situation, I would love to hear more about it!
Hi @Almond_Platypus
i think some things will be harder to implement than others i feel school is too situational to accommodate for everything such as designated self-care time or taking a step back as time wont always accommodate for it which will be annoying in year 12
Hi @yeah_it_tahtperson
Thank you for replying. I know that your circumstances are different from mine but I hope that my other tips help.
Thanks for reaching out on the forums.
We are sorry to hear that you are feeling overwhelmed with exams. During the exam period, I'm sure a lot of students can relate to feeling overwhelmed too and are also struggling to find the motivation to study. Please know that you are not alone and that it is normal to feel this way. About the seas/des, are you able to reach out to someone at the school like a teacher and get some support around it?
Also, we're interested to know how you are feeling today?
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Hi @Bel_RO im considering seeing my schools career counsellor about a DES/seas/unscored vce. not particularly sure when specifically but most likely after I've completed a few exams, I'm feeling slightly more confident but still stressed for my exams this week as they are packed so closely together T_T
I think talking to the careers counsellor at school is a great idea and we are glad to hear that you are feeling a bit more confident about your exams. It is also understandable to continue feeling stressed about your exams when they are so close to one another. Is there anything in particular that you have been doing to help reduce some of your exam stress?
Hey @yeah_it_tahtperson
Thank you for posting here and sharing that.
I can see that you're really exhausted at the moment and that's completely understandable.
Senior years of high school can be very draining, and the pressure you feel can be so heavy.
I wonder what you do to take breaks? What things do you enjoy and do you try to make sure to fit in your hobbies so that you don't burn out? Although studying continuously may sound effective, it can often have the opposite effect because you feel so mentally drained and burned out, especially by the time you get to exams.
Hope you're able to take some time to destress and breathe this week
@ayrc_1904 the thing is its so hard for me to properly study that iu don't take breaks as i usually haven't done enough work recently
but usually i watch youtube or go to the gym, but my breaks arent of good length when they happen so it doesn't really help
Hey @yeah_it_tahtperson
Ah I get what you mean.
What study techniques do you use? I use the Pomodoro technique to try and keep focused. It essentially is when you work and do focused study for 25 minutes and then take a 5 minute break. And then focused study for another 25 minutes and then another break etc. like a cycle.
It's been effective for me when I've felt low motivation and found it difficult to concentrate for long periods of time.
Have you found a way that you study best? Some learn best by doing really large mind maps, others just rote learn (look, cover, write, check), others make flashcards online (there's a cool app called Gizmo that I've used that reminds you to do flashcards using spaced repetition techniques), others might try to teach someone else a topic, and others prefer making up stories to help them memorise concepts. I guess it depends as well on if you're a visual learner or not.
Perhaps you can try out a few different ideas?
Hi @yeah_it_tahtperson
Just wanted to show some support. 💙
Exams are definitely not the best way to assess all students' abilities and it's a shame that we still don't have a better system in place.
I'm sorry to hear that you have been feeling so much pressure and stress coming from your school, parents, and exams. It's a shame that students are feeling this way during exams as stress can impact the way people perform.
I can see why you are feeling frustrated and overwhelmed during these times and I hope you are able to do some self-care in the midst of it all. Also, feeling like you are not motivated is very common during this part of the year due to the burnout that a lot of students experience. I hope you are able to push through.
All the best 💙
