Is their something wrong with me?

I want to start out by saying that this didn't start yesterday. For the past two years or so, I've been struggling with the symptoms of bipolar disorder. I've talked with my school counselor and a parent about it. My mother (the parent I talked to) asked if I needed/wanted a therapist. I didn't really give a clear answer, but now it's a month later and I'm starting to get too overwhelmed by it all. I'm just really anxious about if there's actually something wrong with me or if I'm just having regular mood swings? I haven't noticed anyone having mood swings like this before though. Anyone know what to do?

@Mya  Hi as someone with bipolar I would also recommend seeing a professional to try and figure out what is going on. Often it can be hard to distinguish between normal teenage mood issues and a mood disorder also some thing like bipolar often take a while to diagnose and can be mistaken for other thing or other things can be mistaken for bipolar. It is best to see a professional that way you can be more sure. Even if it doesn’t turn out how you expect a psychologist for example would still be able to help you with whatever it is.

Thank you so much for your help. I'm gonna see what options I have for a psychologist. Hopefully things will get better soon!

Hi @Mya! Welcome to the forums!

I don't have much to add, but I hope that everything works out for you. If you do end up seeing a psychologist, I hope that it helps. 🙂
I think it's a brave step to see a professional. You can find psychologists in your area which specialise in treating particular issues through this online tool.
We're here for you if you need any more support, or want to talk about anything at all. Heart

Hi @Mya

As both @Maddy-RO and @Tiny_leaf  have stated, I would reiterate seeing a psychologist or mental health professional. Even though I like to think I have good knowledge about bipolar disorder, a think a professional would be much more helpful in giving you a direct answer and specific advice.
In saying this, if you’d like to discuss further about how you’re feeling and if you need social support, we are hear for you at ReachOut. Hopefully someone with a similar experience to you may be able to offer some general advice about how they have managed it.
I think it is a great thing that you have noticed that something may be wrong and reached out, it’s a big step that you should be proud of ♥️

Hey @Mya

Welcome to the forums! Thank you for sharing your story with us, it takes a lot of courage to reach out. Smiley Happy

Given that you have been struggling with these symptoms for a while it might be best if you seek professional support. You should not have to go through this alone. I think it's really great that your mum asked if you wanted to see a therapist. It sounds to me like you said no (or didn't say yes) back then, and that you are slightly regretting your decision. Is that correct? If so, it might be worth bringing this topic up again with your mum and telling her how you have been feeling.

Also just wanted to let you know that there are some free counselling services available for people like yourself. If you haven't already, it might be a good idea to get in touch with Kids Helpline. They operate 24/7 and can provide counseling via the phone or chat/online. Feel free to check out their details on our urgent help page here.

Thanks again for sharing. Please keep us updated on how you are going Heart

Hi @Mya

How would you feel about seeing a psychologist?

They can help you figure out what's going on, and help you find ways to cope with it.
