Relapsing into self harm

So after 3 years of being clear of any major, issues, things have been getting worse, as the times gone on I haven't been really paying attention how bad things were getting again. Slowly stress, relationships, school and all these other pressures have built up and I couldn't take it anymore, and l... yeah. Over 2 years ago I suffered from an eating disorder, and I overcame that and haven't gone back since, but this feels so much more difficult then before.

I'm kinda looking for some ways to deal with my SH, how to manage it, and prevent stuff like this creeping up on me and making sure it doesn't happen again in the future

Hey  @Mights definitely a whole tonne of strategies, some people do intense stretching, flick a rubber band, box, run etc but there's definitely ideas that can be tailored to you 🙂

As with @letitgo have you tried anything so far? What usually activates the desire to self harm etc?

Hey @Mights and welcome to RO! I know there's people here on the forums who have experience with SH and strategies to use when trying to manage it (myself included) so I hope we're able to help you out with it.

First off, are there any techniques/strategies that have worked for you in the past that you could employ regularly?

I feel like my ED is in the past, like it's something I have over come and don't have to worry about. But what I'm going through now feels a lot different from that, the emotions I experienced before versus now and such.

@Mights, it's cool that you're noticing that something isn't right, that's the first big step! Remember also that the skills you developed to overcome the ED are still there to help you overcome this new challenge, even if you might need to practice em a little.

Seems like there's a bit of external pressure here and as well as that maybe you're feeling worried that your internal mental health is taking a turn for the worst.

How can we help?

Hey @Mights so sorry to hear about things getting worse for you lately, sounds like you've had a lot on your plate.

Welcome to RO, I hope the forums provides you with the peer support you are after 🙂 A few of the guys on the forums have some experience in this area and no doubt will jump in soon.

Are you feeling like your ED is becoming a challenge for you again, sort of creeping back up on you - is this right?

Looking forward to hearing from you, and following up with some ideas to help you move forward Smiley Very Happy
