nothing is right

hi

we are on break for school holidays and my whole family- which is usually pretty distant- has been up in each others hair. and every fricking argument we have turns into a screaming match and then my mum just wants to sit us down and sort it out. i have younger siblings and she doesnt want them to copy my behaviour. but it is fricking annoying.
i am so mad at myself all the time. i wouldnt say im fat but at the moment i feel ridiculously fat and stupid and i want to lose weight. i am angry at myself coz i keep worrying about stuff that isnt important. i think im just stupid. i dont know exactly what is wrong and i certainly dont know how to fix it. my mum thinks im getting depression. i want her to leave me tf alone coz i feel stubborn

so much for starting the year off on the right foot
what a joke

Lanejane thank you so much. I feel a little better today. I checked out the pages you put up and I'm glad I read them. I think I could have depression. I do see a counsellor at school and she told me I might. But when I see her again I will discuss this.

Troy thank you for your encouragement. There is hope that my relationship with my mother will get better.

Hey @012EmC

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better today, and it's good to hear you are seeing a school counsellor. A lot of our members on here who have had depression have found speaking to someone about it really useful (me included!).

I think the most important is to make sure you have some strategies up your sleeve for when you're not feeling good. I like to go running, seeing my sisters or curling up on the couch watching DVD's with my dogs... It kind of depends what's going on in my life as to which one cheers me up! Do you have any coping strategies? There's a list of ways to build coping skills on ReachOut too which I always refer back to when i'm stuck.

Hi @012EmC

There was a period of time during highschool where I had endless fights with my mum that would never be resolved and always feel absolutely pointless and futile.

I don't have any advice for the current moment, but I wanted to offer the encouragement to get through it, as just a few years later, once i got a bit older, my mum respects my independence, and now I cant remember the last time we fought.

Hope your situation gets better!

Hi @012EmC

It sounds like you have been having a pretty rough few weeks. Fighting with family can be hard, especially when people around us might not understand where we are coming from or what we are going through. Remember though, it's never to late to start your year off on a positive note.

I wonder if you have ever read through the Tough Times and Wellbeing sections on the ReachOut website? They have some realy great information on feeling angry, conflict with parents, feeling crap and challenging negative thinking. I think all of these pages might be relevant to what you're feeling and going through at the moment. The challenging negative thinking one especially, because it might help you to stop some of those thoughts of feeling 'fat' or 'stupid'... you would be surprised how much positive thinking can really alter our mood and help us to feel better once we stick to it for a while.

What do you think about your mum saying you have depression? Would you say there is any truth to that? If you ever wanted to speak to someone about it, there is a great team at Kids Helpline or eheadspace. Both having free online counselling that you could access if you wanted.

Welcome back!
