Fellow Yogi's
Hey everyone!
I'm not sure if a thread like this exists already but I wanted to hop on and start a discussion about yoga.
I started yoga last year without knowing a lot about it or thinking too much into and I'm so glad I did it because it is easily one of my favourite things to do. I think it can get a bad rep from some people as boring or pointless but what makes it fun for me is that I allow myself the freedom to do whatever I want with it! I love the peaceful state that I can find myself in when I'm really allowing this freedom and when I'm not rushing to finish. I think this comes with learning to move my body in a way that makes me feel good because I used to spend (and still do, this is all very new to me) a lot of my time exercising to look a certain way. Yoga (and walking/running) is really helping me to move away from this kind of thinking.
I watch Yoga With Adriene on Youtube and follow a lot of her videos. I'm yet to actually attend a yoga class in person but this is something I really want to do. My favourite poses are downward facing dog, tree pose and although i'm not the best at it (yet) I like giving crow pose a try.
I would love to hear from my fellow yogi's on here so I have a few questions to kick off the conversation.
1. How long have you been practicing yoga for?
2. What are your favourite poses?
3. Do you practice yoga at home or in a class?
4. What do you love about yoga?

Hi, thanks for this thread, I'm still a freshman in yoga, have had only 3 lessons but I do like it and I cannot understand why I didn't practice it before...
I started practicing yoga, not for a long time ago. I think it is about 3 months ago. I wanted to do it at home but I couldn't understand how to do it correctly so I'm practicing yoga in the class. Our trainer suggested blogs about yoga for reading and I got into this sport more thanks to these blogs. I understood why it is so important to breathe correctly in yoga and many other useful things that we need to know while practicing yoga. I cannot say that I have a most loved pose, you know I'm still getting into it. I'll keep you in touch.
@KPaterson1997 Welcome to yoga! I remember when I 'rediscovered' it a couple of years ago when I was in a bad depressive phase. I actually left the class and got home and started crying and freaked out my poor mum What part of yoga do you like the most? Strength, stretching?
@VirginiaWH Yoga at home is good but I also think classes are great for accountability and staying safe I'm glad the breathing practice has been something that has helped you, I use it a lot too in my daily life.
Hey @JullyBean ! thanks for making this thread, when I read the title I immediately thought of Yoga with Adrienne I was talking to a friend just yesterday about Yoga with Adrienne, my brother loves her too - lots of love for adrienne!!!
1. How long have you been practicing yoga for?
I started doing yoga probably 11 years ago? I definitely have NOT been doing it consistently for that long! In fact I haven't done it in AGES, but I'd love to get back into it.
2. What are your favourite poses?
I love Warrior, Crow stands, Bow pose, and Child's pose (and anything where I can lie down and chill )
3. Do you practice yoga at home or in a class?
I used to go to a class every week, I did that for a few years and it was great. I'd love to get back into classes sometime, but I have also enjoyed Adrienne and her encouragement via Youtube
4. What do you love about yoga?
I love that it makes me feel strong, calm, flexible and in control.
Hey @Hannah-RO @JullyBean thought I'd jump in! My mum is a yoga teacher and my dad and I also do it so I think I can safely say I have a yogi family I personally love doing Les Mills Bodybalance- it's like a more fast-paced yoga class set to modern music! It's good because they cover a bit of everything like tai chi, pilates and balancing. You might be able to do a trial on Les Mills online or live, otherwise gyms often have classes! I'll definitely have a look at Adrienne when I'm looking for something new.
1. How long have you been practicing yoga for?
I think I started in late high school and then stopped for a little bit and came back. So six years or more!
2. What are your favourite poses?
I love downward and upward dog actually! And tree pose and flower pose. Also all of the hip openers like lizard. But my all-time proud pose is mermaid since it took me a little while to get there!
3. Do you practice yoga at home or in a class?
I generally do a class in front of my tv once a week, although I used to do it at the gym until my schedule and the timetable changed! I also used to do hot yoga and that's super fun!
4. What do you love about yoga?
I really love how it keeps me from feeling sore and stiff for one! I've definitely taken my yoga breathing skills into my cardio training and then into my bouldering. For example there's a scary part of my bouldering gym where they put one of the climbs over a lip and there's nothing under you wall-wise when you're doing it (there's mats of course so it's safe). I've gotten stuck up there a couple times since it's hard to downclimb from and my yoga breath has helped me from panicking!
