Weekly Wellbeing: Favourite Live Cams

Hi everyone!

How are you all doing at the moment? I hope you and your loved ones are all keeping well in these uncertain times. The situation in some parts of Australia is crazy and so many of us are isolating. It's sad not being able to do the things we love, but just remember we are all doing our bit to help the healthcare system.

One of my favourite things to do when I'm stuck indoors is to watch live cams from around the world. It's been amazing to see famous landmarks, streams of cute animals and natural wonders, all without leaving my desk. It can be quite relaxing to watch a slow train journey or an aurora. Watching cute kittens, bears and other kinds of animals also cheers me up when I'm in a bad mood.

Here are some of my favourites:
Earth Cam  - This site has cams of a lot of famous landmarks.
World Cams - Also a bunch of streams from around the world.  I love the railway ones, especially the ones which have a view from the front seat.
Explore.org - This one has a lot of live cams of cute animals in people's houses, sanctuaries or in nature! I recommend the Brooks Falls Brown Bears one and the Wolong Grove Panda Cam. It also has cams of the Northern Lights, but I personally find them a bit boring because nothing much happens most of the time. I think you have to be watching at the right time.
Shibuya Scramble Crossing Live Cam - There are different angles of this cam, so it's hard for me to link it but you can easily find it on YouTube. I could watch this one for hours. There's just something fascinating about watching all these people crossing the road. Sometimes, you can see a lot of people wearing masks and sometimes, they all have the same umbrella or clothes. It's amazing how this intersection manages to work. I love watching this cam before I go to sleep for some reason.
Rolling Cam Venice - This one is pretty relaxing with the classical music in the background and scenic water views.
NASA/ISS Live Stream - This one is so cool. You can see Earth from space! Yes, it's not 100% live all the time but it's a memorable one and the music is so nice.
Live Bird Feeder Cam in Ohio - This one is for all the bird lovers! There used to be another one with an eagle nest that I would watch all the time.
There are even live cams where you can click a button to make something happen on the stream. I activated a bubble machine in someone's backyard in one of them.

Now it's over to you!
Feel free to share your favourite live cams!

How do you feel when watching live cams? Do they help you be more mindful? Has anything funny or interesting happened during a stream you've watched?

Ohh this is a cool weekly wellbeing activity @WheresMySquishy!! ~ I haven't even thought about live cams during these uncertain times, but now that you've introduced me to some I'm definitely going to check them out! I'm personally a fan of marine creatures and sea life so I just did a search and found this Shark Cam from explore.org and this Reef Cam in the Caymans!

I love the underwater sounds in the video too; it's very immersive and somewhat calming to me Smiley Very Happy I'd like to think that it's helped make me more mindful and aware of my surroundings! I haven't seen anything hilarious yet in the cams but I'll be sure to record what happened if I do! ~

Thanks for introducing me to those cams @drpenguin! I find the underwater ones calming too. I could watch fish swimming for hours. I need to find a turtle live cam because my sister likes turtles. Jellyfish ones are pretty cool too!
I honestly think some of the ocean live cams are better than the real thing. Once, we went whale watching but the seas were really rough and we got seasick, so we didn't get to enjoy looking at the whales much. But there are lots of whale and manatee cams online for free viewing! Some of the ones I've watched even have commentary.
I stumbled upon this video a few months ago, and I feel like live cams help me think about what a wonderful world we live in. Smiley Tongue

@WheresMySquishy oo they're all so cute ! and yeah the live cams make me marvel at how cool our world is and how much of it I haven't really seen yet! it definitely is also hard to find a turtle live cam too, I guess because sea turtles aren't common

I watched this cam of the International Space Station over the weekend. I even saw one of the astronauts! There were a lot of people watching it at one point.

I'm so glad you found this activity fun @Tay100! I watched some with my family. One of my family members liked them because they're really into slow TV and my sister liked the panda one. I also like watching ones that have baby animals in them. I remember one I used to watch that even had a little dollhouse built for the animals to play in.

I haven't watched the Taronga Zoo ones @Hannah-RO, but I remember a video floating around of a zookeeper taking the opportunity to do a little dance routine in Melbourne Zoo's livestreams. Smiley Tongue

@WheresMySquishy  oooo that sounds so cute, actually, I remember hearing about the funny Melb zoo one! I'd love to see like a gymnastics one, or musical/tech rehearsal one!
