that's such an interesting question @Gray_llama 🙂 it's so individual for everyone as to what leads them to identify as trans/gender diverse. I think the number one thing is, if seeing yourself as trans or genderfluid feels like it helps you understand yourself better, then you should feel free to identify that way! I'm happy to share some of my experiences with you though and I'd love to hear about yours if you're comfortable.
For me, there's --
- An 'icky' feeling when I see myself dressed up in really feminine clothes (that is my assigned gender).
- A comfortable and happy feeling when I wear something more masculine/androgynous
- It really made my heart ache when I would see people of the 'opposite' gender having fun together and looking the way I wanted to look; I just wished that was me.
- I don't really understand gender rules and norms, they seem so silly and pointless and I find it really frustrating how much they dictate our lives. To me it would make no difference if the idea of 'gender' had never been invented
- when I have to tick 'male' or 'female' on a form neither of them feels correct
- It makes me cringe to be called a 'woman' because I just think, that word has nothing to do with who I am. But 'man' isn't any better!
Those are just a few examples, hope it helps! 🙂
