TW : Dealing with Abortion News

Hi everyone ❤️

It has been a heavy couple of days with the news of abortion being made illegal again over in the US in certain states. Although it's not currently affecting our rights in Australia, this kind of announcement can leave us feeling upset, worried and/or angry. If you'd like some tips on how to deal with bad world news, we have some here that might be helpful.

Some abortion facts :

  • An abortion is the termination (end) of a pregnancy by a procedure that empties the uterus (womb) of an embryo or fetus.
  • In Australia, abortion laws differ depending on which state you live in. To find out how and when you can have an abortion where you're located, click here.
  • There are different methods of abortion depending on your circumstances, you can find out more about this here.
  • Women, transgender, non-binary, intersex and gender-diverse people are all people who may decide to have an abortion.

Deciding if you want to have an abortion is a completely personal choice. It may be an easy choice for you to make, or it might be a difficult one - everyone's circumstances are different and there are no right or wrong answers. If you would like support in making your decision, talk to someone you trust like a friend, family member, GP or a counsellor. It's important to talk to a reliable and unbiased source about the options that are available to you. You can also get support from services like Family Planning Alliance Australia, Australian Women's Health Network and MSI Australia.
