Advice please ?

I'm planning on telling my school counsellor about the fact I've been having thoughts such as "I want to die" but I have a question about confidentuality. If I share this information, is this seen as indangering myself meaning she can tell my parents? I just want to know because if that is the case I think I will tell my parents first, but if not I will wait and tell her first so that I have some support 🙂

Hey there @Blurryphaced,

In Australia the only instance your counsellor will need to break confidentiality is if you have a plan to end your life or if you have a plan to hurt someone else. Suicidal Ideation is confidential, you can read about it all here 🙂

Are you safe tonight? Did you want to talk about what you're going through?

Hey @Blurryphaced, how are you going today? @Bree-RO is right in saying that the only time your counsellor will need to break confidentiality is if you're planning to take your own life (or to hurt someone else). However, in saying that, if your counsellor needs to break confidentiality for the reason that you've mentioned that you're planning to take your life, they will talk about this with you first. Hope that helps!

Hey @Blurryphaced sounds like you're dealing with some pretty heavy thoughts at the moment. Just wanted to check in. How are you feeling today?

@letitgo @Esperanza67 Not fantastic, but things haven't gotten much worse and I'm still alive. Thank you for your concerns 🙂

Welcome back!
