Testosterone and puberty

As a trans guy who just started hormone treatment I was wondering if there were anyone with some advice on managing the mood swings, the restlessness and agitation, and one that might just be from me the increase in psychosis.

Also just advice on puberty again. It's been over 10years for me and they say the second one is worse.

Hi @redhead thank you for sharing ☺️ It must be really difficult to medically transition with all the differences in your body and side effects! I am cis myself but have gone through a number of hormonal issues that have caused mood fluctuations and irritation (as well as some other nasty stuff!). Something I found to help me a lot was to exercise some emotional intelligence and try and identify the reason I was angry or upset, whether it was something legit, or my hormones messing about, or a bit of both. How would you normally address mood fluctuations?

Here is a link to a umbrella site for ftm trans people with a bunch of resources and links to other sites that you might find helpful.

I hope someone who is trans and has gone through something similar can respond and help you out more. Good luck with your transition! ❤️

@Libellule I'm not usually that great at emotional intelligence. I don't respond well at all to emotional instability. I'm learning the best thing is to ride out the emotion and just accept it no judgement. And if I feel unsafe I reach out to my supports.

@redhead It’s great that you do have supports though! Emotional intelligence can be a very tricky thing and it’s absolutely okay that you’re not great at it yet. It’s something that takes time to develop. I think it’s something that everyone struggles with.

What kind of supports do you have?

@Libellule I have a great case manager and a lot of social support with my transition.

Hi @redhead,

It's wonderful to hear that you've started the hormone treatment for your transition 🙂 It is a big step and it's great that you have some wonderful supports to help you with it. Have your case manager and social supports offered any additional advice to cope with these changes? I can see that you already have plans in place to access your support network if you're feeling unsafe and that is awesome.

Did you get a chance to get out the link @Libellule provided? I found that website helpful to myself when searching for trans services in my state. What do you think?

Welcome back!
