NYE Reflections

giphy.gif

I can’t believe it’s New Year's Eve already! New Years can sometimes be assumed as a joyous time of celebration but it's okay if mixed emotions have been coming up. You may be feeling relieved for making it through the year, but also feel sad for the challenges and loss the year has brought. You may also be feeling nervous about the things you plan to do in 2025 - I know I am!  A whole lot of life happens within these 12 months and so much happens after.

Today and in the early days of the new year it can be helpful to reflect on the year that’s been and what's ahead. I find reflecting is like taking a big deep breath in, reminding myself that I have made it through another year and that I owe it to myself to rest and reflect before entering the new year. If reflecting is something you are keen to do, but don't know where to start, I’ve listed a few activity and journal style prompts below to get you started 🙂 The activity prompts are there to get you thinking about key moments you have enjoyed this year and what you are looking forward to doing next year. The journal style prompts are there, if you are looking to reflect in a more longer pondering way.

Checking in:

Reflecting on the past and the upcoming year may understandably bring up distressing thoughts and feelings. So it can be a good idea to check in with yourself and reach out if you need any support, especially if those difficult thoughts/feelings are sticking around. Below is a list of services that are here for you if you need it.

If you feel comfortable I would love to hear some of your 2024/2025 reflections below! Or if you want to share any fun reflection activities you normally do around New Years please share! I loved reading the In's and Out's for 2025 and one thing you did in 2024 threads  that have already been created by our own @MagsMae and @happymunchkin🥰 .

Here's my reflections 😊

  • A song that sums up my 2024 is "How far we've come" by Matchbox Twenty
  • My fav/most interesting read of 2024 would be  "The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessel van der Kolk
  • My intention for 2025 is being more sustainable (both literally and mentally) 🙂

Hi @Amelia_RO

Happy new year!! It's already the third of January so I'm hoping I'm not late to the party. Thank you for the prompts! Here are some of my reflections/resolutions:

2024:

- A song that sums up my year: Fly High by Burnout Syndromes

- A word that sums up the year: Motivation - found myself struggling with demotivation in the last year of my degree so it took a lot of me to get my motivation up to finish

- The most important goal I achieved this year is to finish my degree with the grades I was aiming for. After a lot of stress and struggle with demotivation, I felt that all my efforts paid off when I received my transcript!

- The most exciting thing that happened in 2024 was when the Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle came out. Haikyu!! helped so much with reviving my motivation so the movie release came at the right time and was really special to me.

- How kind was I to myself: genuinely, I think I’ve been kinder to myself in 2024 than I ever was the previous years. I had less self-deprecating thoughts and did a lot of nice things to myself such as allowing myself to have a breather during the busiest periods (I deliberately included playing video games in my schedule so that I could unwind at the end of the day), told myself I’m doing well, and reminded myself that I can do it and failure is just part of the process.

2025:

- A word that sums up my intention for the new year is "Explore"

- What I have been putting off that I want to do this year: my driving lessons. I think it's been long overdue haha

- I want to go through a lot of the books on my shelves this year including classics and Japanese novels

1. None (so far)

The word that sums up my intention for the new year:

Hi @Amelia_RO

Happy New Years!!! I'm glad to have found this post so that I can reflect on my experiences in 2024 as well as what's to come in 2025. I love a lot of these prompts 💜

Some activity reflections:

2024:

- This year I am grateful for my resilience, the opportunities that have presented themselves to me, all the yummy food I got to try this year, all the beautiful places I got to see/trips I got to go on, and this forum!

- A song to sum up the year would be All My Life by Falling in Reverse or When You're Young by UNDR WRPS.

- The main book I read this year was Husband Hunting with ConFIDANce by Fidan Shevket (Fidan_Tok on TikTok), which was my favourite and I have a signed copy. I also read a lot of extreme horror books.

- I watched way too many TV shows to even list so we'd be here forever haha, The Frog (Korean drama on Netflix) was quite good I remember.

- A nice meal I had this year was going out for Korean BBQ or getting these massive toasties with hashbrown, egg, and kewpie mayo inside it.

- A word to sum up this year would be 'difficult.'

2025:

- 5 activities to do in the new year: go on more day trips, learn Tarot cards, eat more yummy foods, build some more mini legos, and go to some comedy shows.

- A song that resonates with me when I think about the new year is Saturn by SZA (hoping for something more positive).

- I want to read some of the horror books I have on my list.

- I'm looking forward to Squid Game season 3 coming out!!!

- I'm looking forward to more toasties in the new year!

- A word to sum up the new year would be 'hopeful.'

Hello @Amelia_RO,

Happy New Year Eve! I must say what a good idea it is to mark out the end of year with some reflection of what is to come or how much you have achieved over the past 12 months 🤩, really helps you take a glimpse at what is install for you and how far you have come.

My reflection is as followed:

A song that wraps up my 2024 would be  “It’s Going Down Now” from the Persona 3 Reload Original Soundtrack.

A song that resonates with how I’m feeling about 2025 would be “Value” by Ado.

A nice meal that I had for 2024 would be some Chinese sticky pork belly that I made ( was very reminiscent of home)

A nice meal that I look forward to for the year would be any of my mom’s dishes ( but some notable ones could be sweet and sour pork trotters, Popiah ( or Spring rolls) and minced ginger and garlic prawns.

A word that sums up 2024 is “triumphant” ( due to completing my Thesis and taking a big milestone in my life)

My intention for 2025 would be denoted by the word “hope” for what lies ahead for me in my studies or work that I would need to do for the future.
