GR - Life After Year 12 Exams - Oct 22
Year 12 exams are upon us *internal screams*
Okay, it's okay. You got this!
There is life after year 12 exams!
There are lots more videos about this from Reachout Australia, just browse through that playlist and you'll find heaps more 🙂
The biggest thing I hear constantly about advice for yr12 students is not to worry or let your end of year 12 marks define you. And if you don't get the mark you want, remember that there are ALWAYS other options! You don't have to go straight to uni straight after high school. TAFE exists and gives you an education as well, and in some fields can prepare you very well for your chosen career, by giving you lots of practical and hands on experience.
We also have lots of resources over here at exam stress
We know this time can be super stressful, which is why we're going to have a chat about it next Monday October 22 at 7:30 pm AEDT
(A friendly reminder that is is now Daylight Savings so those in WA, NT, SA, QLD please check out this link to check when GR starts if you are unsure :))
any suggestions on what do as I moving into STEPS group Australia
Hi @ArieVisser12 , it's nice to have you here 🙂 I don't know a lot about the STEPS group, are you going to be in one of the employment programs?
no I will be living on site and I will be a full collage student
Hey @ArieVisser12, that sounds really exciting Was there anything in particular that you needed advice about? When are you joining the STEPS group?
I am moving in November 21st and I need advice on how to get stress back
I tend to have mental break downs when assessments start and thinking about all the mistakes I have made in my life what do u suggest?
Hey @ArieVisser12 , that sounds really tough - a lot of people struggle with managing stress and stuff with assessments, and it sounds like you're also pretty hard on yourself thinking about all the mistakes you've made in your life. I'm wondering if you've ever had a chance to check out the resources on the ReachOut website with ways to help deal with exam and study stress, you can find those here if you're interested? Is it exams,or assignments, or both , that you find tough?
So, so important!
I remember it being impossible to truly imagine a life without school, and then one day I woke up and it just... happened.
Now I find myself sitting here like:
😛
1. When you were in high school what did you want to do? Or if you still are in high school, what do you want to do?
When I was in high school, I wanted to study medicine and become a pediatrician. I always knew I wanted to help people and I thought that being a doctor was the way to achieve that. I now know there are so many different ways to achieve my goal of helping people. I never would have anticipated 5 years down the track that I would be working in mental health. Now I couldn't imagine working in any other field!
1. When you were in high school what did you want to do? Or if you still are in high school, what do you want to do?
When I was in high school I had no idea what I wanted to do at university! I was leaning towards studying law and becoming a lawyer, but I ended up going with business because it seemed like it gave more options.
But I am now in my 4th year of uni studying psychology and just like @Jess1-RO I can't imagine doing anything else! Even though it took me so long to get where I am, I wouldn't have had it any other way as I had so many amazing experiences along my journey here 🙂
Good Monday everyone 🙂
1. When you were in high school what did you want to do? Or if you still are in high school, what do you want to do?
For most of high school I had two goals:
1. To do really well in high school.
2. To go into the film industry. This would mostly change between wanting to act, to direct, or to write.
I would randomly have other careers that I'd want, most commonly being a vet, psych or a politician. By the time I was going into year 12, I still wanted to go into film but realised that I really wanted to study philosophy.
@ErinsAntics @Jess1-RO such similar experiences! Albeit different fields. It's so interesting how taking a different path can change our perspectives so assuredly. I wish I had your confidence!
Also the other career path I was (still am) interested in is definitely acting! But I don't think I'd ever be able to succeed.
1. When you were in high school what did you want to do? Or if you still are in high school, what do you want to do?
I am not in high school anymore but when I was in Year 12 at High School I wanted to be an admin worker/receptionist or very specifically work in local government as a customer service officer (I did work experience in that area while I was in Year 12). But spoiler alert while I did work as a customer service officer in local government a few years after high school, I couldn't handle it at all (my anxiety wasn't coping at all), so I left after 6 months. 2 years of unemployment followed and I am currently studying Community Services at TAFE and I am LOVING it! So many people have told me it's perfect for me and they never could see me being a receptionist so it all worked out in the end 🙂
Tonight is all about end of year exams!
But never fear, we are here! 😄

hmm when i was in school i wanted to be a horse trainer but also was already a carer so wanted to expand in that field as well
@scared01 nice 🙂
My turn! 😄

Probably a vet. Although I went through a marine biologist phase too (still sort of am) but I probably would not survive university-level science studies so instead I'm into teaching. If I had to say now, I'd probably want to do something related to teaching but also animals or art! (I freaking love animals 😄 :D)
