If the World Wide Web was shut down for 24 hours, how would you spend your time?

Cry in front of my computer screen and think "why is this happening to me?!" Hahaha 😛

Yeah, that would be me. Hahaha. Then ask the housemates if it was happening it them, text home. Well, after my housemate rings the web company.

Nah, I'd probably spend the time reading actual books instead (something I do anyway but not as much as I'd like)

I think the web can be pretty useful and convenient  because everyone acknowledges that it's the place where everyone is at! No matter where in the world you are or what you do for a living, there's always new stuff, services, and apps being released to address the needs of their audience or for learning 🙂

@lokifish Oh dear! That's not how you use emergency services Smiley LOL

@stonepixie Definitely! Sounds crap that it cost you your monthly bill though Smiley Sad But if it means making someone or those closest to you happy - just from hearing from you - it's worth it 🙂

Maybe it wasn't clear enough. @Myvo Hahaha. It doesn't cost me anything. Just access to the internet. If I didn't pay the bill, I wouldn't have access. And living in a share house, it means it is so much cheaper!

I definitely use the bus tracker. Buses are rarely on time. They are either early or a little to extremely late.

@stonepixie Trains too! This afternoon I missed my bus and had to get a lift as the train was 4 minutes late. Doesn't sound like much but when you've got a tight connection it certainly is!

We all use the internet on a pretty regular basis, so I am curious to know ...

If the World Wide Web was shut down for 24 hours, how would you spend your time?

Gardening, photographing stuff, bike riding, hanging out with friends IRL (i'd ride over to their house to find out if they were free :)). Cooking food with my normal oven (not the internet connected one). Sleeping, meditating, building fishtanks. So many things!

@Ben-RO You honestly sound like you'd have a more fun, fufilling time than the rest of us if the net went down for 24 hours Smiley Tongue

So, none of us would really know how to cope if the internet went down for 24 hours 😞

We sometimes use the net to catch up and to socialise. Do you think that there’s some benefits to online hang outs? Why/why not?

There's pros and cons of everything. Online hang outs allow you to keep in touch with people you otherwise wouldn't (such as those living interstate/overseas). I think the downsides of it are mainly that some people use it as a replacement for face-to-face contact they otherwise could have had. The internet is great but typing out *hugs* isn't quite the same as the feeling of actually hugging a friend/family member

I know that feeling all too well @lokifish There are times where I just wish I could hug my family, but yeah. Bit hard when they live 4 hrs from you. But lucky for me, my housemates give great hugs. 🙂

Online hangouts are awesome if you live far away from the people you want to chill with. But is it really the way to go when you live so close to the people you are chilling with? Shouldn't you meet up in real life? Although, I am guilty of having full on conversations with my housemates over the webs. 😞

But then there is the ugly side of the internet. What happens if you come across a troll who just won't leave you alone?

Hmm @stonepixie i have never encountered a Troll I couldn't deal with. It seems like these days it's pretty easy to block/ignore/mute em? Sorry if you had one who managed to get to you still after all that! Ugh, that would be tough.

I think online friends are often a gateway to real life friends - although it's important to be safe if you choose to meet a person from the online realms!

The skills you need to make friends online and talk to people about stuff are often pretty transferable to real life skills though i think.

Online relationships are a bit of a double-edged sword for me. I get quite socially anxious which means talking online is often easier than face-to-face, but it's also a way of avoiding the anxiety and keeping it going. And of course if/when I do meet up with someone I've met online they're often surprised that I'm so quiet and reserved as I'm not that way when I'm behind a computer screen

Yes! Safety first when meeting someone online. I remember the police busted some creep at the train station near me. *shudder*

I've only met 2 people IRL from the online realm. Both times was in a pretty busy place.
