What are some signs that you should be concerned about your pals or yourself when navigating the online world?
If they start neglecting their real-life responsibilities and friendships for the online world. I've heard stories of people sending large amounts of money to people they've only met online - that's a huge red flag, but also ties in with my first point - if they're losing money then they're not going to be able to pay bills, go out with friends etc

Still as rad, despite my poor judge of gender @MyvoMy entire life can be described in one sentence: It didn't go as planned and that's okay. ツ

@Ben-RO wrote:Interested to hear everyone's opinions. Do you think that sometimes online friendships and socialising damage our IRL Social skills?
It definitely could, especially when you become so engrossed in the online world and you forget about people IRL. Or every response is carefully thought out but in the real world, you don't have that luxury. Maybe you could even pretend to be someone you are not and get so heavily involved in that persona, that you forget who you really are. And my mind is just racing off on a tangent.

@stonepixie For sure. And following on from trolls, there's also people who talk big on Facebook comments or the sharing of a news article. People don't realise that their nasty words and threats can actually lead to persecution. For example, that weird NSW chiropractor that threatened Senator Nova Peris and claimed his account was 'hacked'. Sure, mate.

I know! That honestly sounds like such an incredible day @Ben-RO - almost makes me want to get off the internet and do all those things. Almost 😛

We sometimes use the net to catch up and to socialise. Do you think that there’s some benefits to online hang outs? Why/why not?
I think there totally is, it's different to face to face catching up, but it still counts as socialising i reckon. I think that it's just another way to communicate with other people. I also reckon it can lead to more face to face and bigger, richer friendships in the offline world. I have made a few good friends who I've gone on to hang out with IRL that i originally met through games in particular 🙂

If the World Wide Web was shut down for 24 hours, how would you spend your time?
Have some really weird conversations with my housemates. Read, sleep, eat. And craft a bit.

4. Do you think that using the web and/or different tech services is pretty convenient? Why?
So, so, so convenient! I get to video chat my little rugrats for over an hour and all it cost me was my monthly internet bill. 😄 Not to mention, it brings big smiles to their faces.
It makes keeping in touch with friends I made a uni so much easier even when they are on the otherside of the world.

Given how readily the internet is available, how do you use it? eg Free wifi in public places, on our phones, computers, laptops, tablets
I have a phone and tablet (my laptop died on me eons ago), so I usually use them or if I'm at home then I'll sometimes use the desktop computer. Free WiFi is my saviour! And the hospital I'm working at for the next month is the main teaching hospital for my uni so I can use uni WiFi on breaks! Best thing ever 😄

Yeah, I also feel hesitant about using free wi-fi. So I mainly access the internet at home and at uni on my phone and tablet.

Free WiFi is a necessity for me as I get like 300mb of data a month on my phone plan 😞 and I get $300 worth of texts/calls a month but I never come anywhere close to using that amount (I generally use Facebook messenger or iMessage instead of texting). There needs to be a thing where each month you can pick and exchange some of your call value for Internet, or vice versa

My laptop has a really bad virus 😞(I used the Internet for illegal purposes - torrenting tv shows and the bad fairies got me)
I just use my phone and my iPad and sometimes my laptop if it decides not to be too much trouble.
I always get annoyed at free wifi in places because it's so slow so I just use my data cause I get heaps anyway

Mainly via my phone, or a laptop. I've always been too paranoid about free wifi to even think about using it. Basically, if the network isn't secure, I don't want to be connected.
