Some housemates are awesome and you can all have a good laugh about pretty much anything
Sometimes though, awesome or not so awesome you can be having a crap day and this time when they cut their toenails on the couch it really grinds your gears...
How do you take care of yourself if you are about to explode?
I find that when im ready to let loose on people I live with and have exhausted the effective communication skills or arent in the mood to talk at all, i go to my room and put on some music or watch some tv and just have some alone time.. i usually feel better after a while and realise that whatever i was mad about wasnt that big a deal

I do the same @hartley_ I go to my room when I am not in the mood to hear people talk when I'm upset or anything and I also try not to take things personally. People say a lot of things and they may not know they are hurting you or making things work so I just ignore and keep it moving.

I guess its not just housemates. When I was growing up in care I lived in so many different houses, different people had different things they did and a lot of the time I got freaked out, haha.- Mark as New

Another funny experience would probably be waking up to find my housemates entire family asleep on numerous couches and spare matresses throughout our house. Well... that was weird. Felt sick so went to bed at 6 next minute a small village is asleep in our house.- Mark as New

Worst thing is not cleaning up the backyard after a big night - its not up to me I wasn't even there but I don't want to go outside on a sunday morning to see smoke butts and beer bottles everywhere - especially not day before inspection.- Mark as New

What is one tip to communicate appropriately and effectively when staying with others?
Do not yell and treat them like a child (this makes people act worse)

As soon as I get a little bit annoyed like when someone mixes the spoons with the forks in the drawer I fix it up then write some note or just groan about so loadly everybody hears.
