People have all different goals - some big, some small. Unfortunately, this can come into play with comparing your achievements with others. What is your view on New Year's resolutions and setting goals?

Although I often get caught up in the comparasions,

I dont genereally make goals or New Years Resolutions because then I will not disappoint. That and I don't like New Years any more as a general day.

I don't make new years resolutions anymore because I don't really like them. I think you should be able to set goals at any time of the year, not just new years, and I kind of think that there is unecessary pressure on new years resolutions which is another reason I don't really like them. I don't really share my goals with anyone else as my goals are my goals and I don't think I can compare them to other people's as everyone is as different stages of life and have different goals.

@delicatedreamer I just carry over goals I've created during the year that are yet to be crossed off my list and claim it as a new year resolution. 😛 If anything, people should be making their new year resolutions to begin on their birthdays. After all, that is when their new year begins. 😛

Haha I carry over goals and claim them as NY resolutions too! Best way to do it. Agreed, I always think that if I miss the boat with the new year goals then I can just start them on my birthday instead haha.

Oooh I dunno. I'm going to a couple of concerts this year (Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift) so those will be good things to tick off 🙂

@Myvo Please don't take my word for it. I just remember seeing the link to some pseudo-scientific article on a fb feed. But...who believes fb right?

@jvkn  Thank you. I meant that in a good way Cat Embarassed

I just think its important to remember we're all different and all have different things to work on.

It's good to have goals and even better to know what you will do to achieve them, great work guys.

Moving on, our next question is:

Keeping new years resolutions can be hard, what are some was ways that you make sure your resolutions/goals are achievable and that you follow through?

Learn how to problem solve and re-learn the art of rationalisation, learn to take my own advice and perspective. that combined with my parents ability to over-rule and I should be fine 🙂

Breaking them down into smaller goals. E.g. my goal of doing better at uni can be broken down into reading 1 psych paper a week/attending as many lectures as I can. This way I think it’s more realistic and you can see your goals being met quicker, ultimately leading to the “bigger” goal

@jvkn  Ouch! That one is close to home!! I appreciate your tips on breaking the goals into smaller steps...will try it tomorrow...

I have been wanting to talk to my lecturer today, but he is in Melbourne... because i want to balance my studies and other commitments better! That last assignment was a bit ho-hum! Woman Frustrated

@verity23 don't be afraid to ask for help, if you talk to your lecturer early, i'm sure he can organise something for you 🙂

@jvkn Yup, breaking it down (goal-wise - as well as musically while we're at it Smiley Tongue) can help us see the finer details and the obstacles we might have to figure our way around

What are you goals for the New Year and how will you achieve them?

Do better than I did last year at uni- I will try to achieve this by reading more papers, and attending more classes

Find a new job- I will try to achieve this by sending out ALL the resumes, and hopefully attending ALL the job interviews

  • Get a job
  • Get started on my new career pathway (figured science is more of a hobby than a career choice for me)
  • The one thing that I knew would be my resolutions was to not let my anxiety control my life.

I'm already registered with a Job seeking agency (thanks c-link)

I'm working with my advicer on what I would like to do with my life and I might just miss the cut off date for first semester or whatever it is they call it at TAFE.

Just to continue to challenge my anxiety until it is so weak that it doesn't control my life anymore and I need no challenge it anymore.
